While Steven Spielberg has attended the Oscars on plenty of occasions, this year’s event was surely a special one. That’s because he brought along his granddaughter, Poppy, to the elite Hollywood event.
“The E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial director accompanied his granddaughter Poppy Gavigan, 13, to her first-ever red carpet at the award ceremony, hosted by Conan O’Brien at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood March 15,” according to E! News.
Getty“For the rare family outing, Steven sported a classic black tuxedo and bowtie,” E! noted. “Meanwhile, Poppy—whose parents are Steven’s stepdaughter Jessica Capshaw and her husband Christopher Gavigan—donned a light blue satin dress with a corset, which she paired with a red clutch purse and matching beaded necklace.”
You also can’t overlook the fact that his pocket square matched her bag and necklace, which is beyond sweet.

GettySteven and Poppy also spent time talking with actress Jessie Buckley, who won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in “Hamnet.”
Fans Loved Steven & Poppy’s Red Carpet Appearance
When photos of Steven and Poppy appeared on Instagram, people adored what they were seeing and left comments making that clear.
One fan wrote, “She is beautiful, like her Mom❤️”
“She looks just like Jessica 🥹,” another follower added.
A third person said, “I knew that I recognized her! That’s so cool that she got to attend. :)”
“So sweet and beautiful,” came from yet another fan.
Someone else left a comment, saying, “Aww, how sweet. I saw her in the audience at the beginning of the show, too. She looks great. What an experience for a young teenager!”
Poppy Is a ‘Storyteller’ Among Her Family
GettyWhen it comes to Steven’s family, “[t]he Oscar-winning director first became a father with the birth of his son Max, 40, whom he shares with his ex-wife Amy Irving,” according to People. “When Spielberg married actress Kate Capshaw in 1991, he became a father to her daughter Jessica, 49, and son Theo, 37. Spielberg and Capshaw went on to have four children together — Sasha, 35, Sawyer, 32, Mikaela, 30, and Destry, 29.”
As for Jessica, “[t]he Grey’s Anatomy star married entrepreneur Christopher Gavigan in 2004, and over the next decade, the actress and The Honest Company co-founder grew their family,” per People. Now, the pair have “four children: Luke, Eve, Poppy and Josephine.”
When Poppy was almost 5 years old, Jessica told People, “Poppy is my little dance queen. She’s starting to become quite the storyteller in our family.”
Maybe Poppy will attend the Oscars one day for a movie that has her name on it.
