Hallmark’s Erin Krakow Says Cravings Nearly Gave Away Her Pregnancy Secret On Set

Longtime Hallmark Channel star Erin Krakow is living her best life, married for seven months to her husband and fellow “When Calls The Heart” star Ben Rosenbaum, and looking forward to becoming a first-time mom. In an interview published on January 3, 2025, the actress told Scary Mommy she’s in the “favorite chapter of my life so far.”

With season 13 of “When Calls The Heart” premiering on January 4, Krakow said she her pregnancy cravings nearly gave her secret away on set, but that comparing notes with her fellow castmates has been a gift as she prepares for motherhood.

Erin Krakow Had Caterers Suspicious With Her On-Set Cravings

Krakow told Scary Mommy that she and Rosenbaum kept their baby news a secret on-set during much of filming for season 13, which took place in Vancouver from July to November. But her pickle cravings nearly blew her cover.

“I just wanted pickles on everything,” she admitted. “And I didn’t reveal the news to our cast and crew until later in the season, but yeah, Crafty was starting to wonder, I heard, after the fact. They were like, ‘She is asking for extra pickles every time she gets a sandwich; is there something that we should be aware of?'”

Erin Krakow Reveals Traits She Hopes to Pass Along to Her Child

As series lead Elizabeth Thornton on “When Calls The Heart,” Krakow plays a single mom to Little Jack, whom she’s raised on her own since the death of her late husband, a Mountie from the tight-knit community of Hope Valley in the early 1900s. But being an on-screen mom is different than taking on the role off-screen.

Krakow is trying to stay calm about becoming a modern-day, real-life mom, she told Scary Mommy, explaining, “I am trying not to over-Google or overread. I think that is helping to protect me from being terrified because I’m just very much taking it one day at a time. And everybody who becomes a parent figures out how to parent in their own way. So, I’m kind of counting on that. It’s all going to be fine, namaste.”

“But something I’m really looking forward to,” she revealed, “(is that) I just want to sniff that baby’s head, I just want to breathe in that delicious newborn smell. Oh, so good.”

She’s also given some thought to the kind of human she and Rosenbaum hope to raise, telling Scary Mommy that the traits they hope to pass on are “kindness, forgiveness, being an active community member, and being there to support your friends and neighbors. Yeah, that’s really important.”

Erin Krakow Says ‘When Calls The Heart’ Baby Boom Was a Great Surprise

Krakow and Rosenbaum, who dated for more than a decade before marrying in June, are one-third of a surprise baby boom among their “When Calls The Heart” co-stars. Their dear friends Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace are also expecting their first child, while co-star Chris McNally and fellow Hallmark actress Julie Gonzalo are expecting their second — all within six weeks of each other.

When asked about the trifecta of pregnancies on the Hope Valley set, Krakow — who has played series lead Elizabeth Thornton since 2014 — told Scary Mommy, “Oh, it’s the best. It was such a surprise to learn that we were all pregnant at the same time and due within six weeks of each other! It has been so nice to be able to lean on one another and ask questions: ‘Is this normal? How are you preparing for this? Did you find a stroller?'”

“It’s nice to have a community you can lean on,” Krakow continued, “and it feels pretty comparable to the way we handle life in Hope Valley. So, art imitating life or vice versa. But it’s really been very special, and it’s probably my favorite chapter of my life so far. I can’t wait to see what next year brings.”

McNally revealed his and Gonzalo’s baby news during a “When Calls The Heart” panel at the Hallmark Christmas Experience, making them the third Hallmark couple in a matter of weeks to announce they were expecting.

“On season 14, we’ll be opening the Hope Valley Nursery,” Rosenbaum quipped, and McNally added, “And when we all look exhausted, you’ll know why!”

Season 13 of “When Calls The Heart” premieres on January 4 at 8 p.m. Eastern time, and will be available to stream the following day on Hallmark+.
