Calling all HGTV fans with ugly houses! The network (and Alison Victoria) is searching for the next “Ugliest House in America”—and it could be yours.
Casting Call
HGTV is on the hunt for the next “Ugliest House in America” and is asking for fans’ help to find it.
“Do you live near the wildest, ugliest, and most unbelievably weird home in town? Does your home have clashing patters, a confusing layout, strange add-ons, or design choices that just don’t make sense?” and open casting call shared via Instagram read. “We’re not looking for simple fixes—we want the most outlandish, head-scratching home in America.”
The post continued, “The winner receives a $150,000 renovation to transform their home from a dysfunctional eyesore into a stylish, functional space.”
The show — which is hosted by Retta and Alison Victoria — recently wrapped its eighth season and is quickly jumping into prep for its ninth.
“Guess what – guess what- guess what! I’ve been asked to help with the hunt for the glorious HGTV’s Ugliest House in America show that is now casting in ALL 50 states!” the caption read.
Fans who think their home has what it takes to be called the “Ugliest House in America,” are asked to apply by sending details on what makes the house so ugly, submitting photos, and explaining why they purchased the home despite its quirks.
Five Years of Ugly Homes
Following the season 8 finale in August, the “Sin City Rehab” star reflected on five years of starring alongside Retta on their cross-country hunt.
“If you caught the finale of Ugliest House in America, you already know how this goes. Confetti, laughter, tears, and a family walking into a completely transformed home. But there’s a whole world that happens before any of that ever airs,” Victoria shared via her Substack on August 25. “Months of secret planning, surprise arrivals, antiquing, and a lot of me hiding behind a wall scaring the shit out of people.”
She continued, “Today, I want to take you behind everything the cameras didn’t catch. From the very first phone call, to the big reveal.”
Victoria went on to call it “Bananas” how fast time has gone.
“Retta and I have been doing this together for almost five years now, and somewhere along the way it stopped feeling like a job and started feeling like a friendship that happens to have cameras around it,” she gushed.
“Ugliest House in America” — which originally premiered in 2022 — features a dozen homes that were nominated by homeowners or friends who believe their home is the worst in the country. The “Parks and Recreation” star walks through and reviews each home. After one home is crowed the “Ugliest Home in America,” that’s when the “Windy City Rehab” alum comes in and completely revamps the ugly abode with a $150,000 budget.
The network has yet to comment on whether “Ugliest House in America” has been renewed for a ninth season, but based on the open casting call, we’d say it’s all but secured.
