HGTV star Alison Victoria reflected on five years of her hit series, “Ugliest House in America,” alongside beloved costar Retta. One day after the season 8 finale, Victoria took to her Substack to give fans a behind-the-scenes look.
Five Years
“If you caught the finale of Ugliest House in America, you already know how this goes. Confetti, laughter, tears, and a family walking into a completely transformed home. But there’s a whole world that happens before any of that ever airs,” Victoria shared via her Substack on Tuesday, August 25. “Months of secret planning, surprise arrivals, antiquing, and a lot of me hiding behind a wall scaring the shit out of people.”
The “Windy City Rehab” star continued, “Today, I want to take you behind everything the cameras didn’t catch. From the very first phone call, to the big reveal.”
“If you’re not familiar with the show, here’s the idea… Retta travels around the country touring so many homes that people have nominated as… you guessed it… really ugly. Once a winner is chosen, I step in for the finale and lead a full $150,000 renovation,” Victoria added.
While reflecting on the past eight season of hosting the hit show with co-star Retta, Victoria called it “BANANAS.”
“Retta and I have been doing this together for almost five years now, and somewhere along the way it stopped feeling like a job and started feeling like a friendship that happens to have cameras around it,” she gushed.
Fans Chime In
Fans did not hold back in sharing their opinions on how the eighth season ended, voicing their opinions in the comments section of Victoria’s post.
“This my favorite of all time . The design and heart felt reaction of the winners. But Retta was hilarious with the ‘very Miami’ and too math on this show and the bead curtain dilemma! 🤪” one follower wrote.
“This was truly such a joy to watch. You can feel the emotion through the couple. They were so grateful 🥹. The cutest house makeover thus far!! 👏🏽” another praised.
“You did an amazing rehab and the island was EVERYTHING!” a third noted.
Yet another asked for more Victoria and Retta, writing, “Who knew that @thealisonvictoria and @unforettable were the on air friendship that I needed. They should do more shows together, like an antique’s across America road show.”
HGTV fans won’t have to say goodbye for long. After wrapping season 8 of the quirky design series, Victoria is prepping for the second season of her renovation show, “Sin City Rehab”—which is scheduled to premiere in October.
“Sin City Rehab is back, and the stakes have never been higher!” Victoria and HGTV captioned a joint announcement. “That’s right, Alison Victoria has more bold renovations, risky investments, and plenty of Vegas drama up her sleeve in Season 2, which premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 9|8c on HGTV 🎰🏠 #SinCityRehab.”
Originally scheduled to premiere in September, the network quietly delayed the show’s return. Fans can tune into HGTV on Wednesday, October 2, to catch the season 2 premiere.
