HGTV announced the return of its fan-favorite competition series, “Battle on the Beach,” and the teams are stacked.
Joining “100 Day Dream Home” star Mika Kleinschmidt is husband and wife team Josiah and Anna Julian from Baltimore, Maryland.
Who Are Josiah and Anna Julian?
The Julians are a husband-wife power couple from Maryland who go by @renorowhome on social media.
They have taken their more than 30,000 Instagram followers along as they renovated four homes in the Baltimore area. Currently on their fifth, the Julians are restoring a 1960 “untouched rancher.”
“The NEWS is out!!” the couple shared alongside a selfie with Mika. “We can finally share our adventure in Myrtle Beach, SC where we battled it out against two other talented teams on @hgtv Battle on the Beach! ☀️🔨 It was a WILD 7 weeks and we worked so hard to renovate our beach house! Go Team Mika!!!!!”
The pair have been married for six years and share a one-year-old daughter, Layna. They began renovating homes in 2018, and have “house hacked” their way through four DIY renovations.
The Julians may have an edge up on the competition this season as Anna admitted they work “on a budget,” often finding furnishings at thrift stores.
In addition to their house-flipping hustle, both Josiah and Anna work full-time jobs.
“Life can be chaotic sometimes,” she said. “We wouldn’t have it any other way though.”
Despite all the chaos, the couple was able to sneak away from their daily lives for two months to film the show.
“The timing of this just worked out with my Dad retiring and my parents able to join us to watch Layna,” they shared via Instagram in April. “We are SO thankful for them! 👶 There were also a few other crazy things that allowed this to happen, we feel very blessed!”
‘Battle on the Beach’ Season 5
HGTV announced the return of its most popular oceanside competition series.
“HGTV’s epic surfside home renovation competition Battle on the Beach will head to the Grand Strand, South Carolina’s hot vacation destination,” the network said in a May 11 press release.
In addition to Mika, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” star Ty Pennington, and “Renovation Island” star Sarah Baeumler will serve as mentors.
“I think that fans really like that show because you really see people working very hard with their own hands,” Pennington told TV Insider after the announcement. “So, I think it’s one of those shows that you can tell the aggravation and the frustration of competing on a show like that, because you literally see them screaming in agony, not only with each other, but I think just at how hard it actually is.”
Fans can tune in to season 5, set to premiere June 1, to see Josiah and Anna take on Steven and Angelina Jacobs from Team Sarah, and Team Ty — a mother-daughter duo, Michelle Mueller and Sydney Lorence — as they battle for the $50,000 grand prize.
During the two-hour season 5 premiere, the three teams will tackle the living room, creating the best first impression.
