HGTV announced the return of its fan-favorite competition series, “Battle on the Beach,” and the teams are stacked.
Joining “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” star Ty Pennington is mother and daughter team Michelle Mueller and Sydney Lorence from Lincoln, Nebraska.
Who Are Michelle Mueller and Sydney Lorence?
Michelle and Sydney are a mother-daughter power couple from Nebraska who go by @muelllersdayoff and @diysquid on social media.
With a combined 270,000 followers, the pair have taken their fans along as they flip houses in the midwest.
“Well, I texted my mom late one night asking ‘wanna do a tv show with me?’ She did not text me back, but i signed us up anyway, and now here we are,” Sydney shared alongside her announcement post. “We spent 7 weeks renovating an entire beach house with none other than @thetypennington as our mentor. I cried a lot, fought here and there, and questioned why we signed up for this. But honestly I had one of the craziest but amazing experiences of my life.”
Sydney is a 31-year-old stay-at-home mom to two children who spends her free time renovating homes with her husband. She previously worked in beer sales, but quit her job nearly five years ago.
“Fitting for how much I love beer. But I HATED sales,” she shared in November. “And honestly, I wasn’t very good at it for a while! Until people got to know me, trusted me, and knew I wouldn’t just sell them something to get a sale.”
Her job as a DIY influencer is a long way away from her college major: criminal justice.
“Being an ‘influencer’ is not an easy job at all. I never know when my next paycheck is coming. There are so many different ways to make money, yet I don’t know any of them,” she joked. “There are brand deadlines, huge renovations, pressure to post affiliate links, so many opinions and naysayers, and things that are totally out of my control-like how a brand post will perform. The list goes on forever.”
Meanwhile, Michelle and her husband have been “avid DIYers” for all of Sydney’s life. She runs Mueller and Co., where she helps clients with design, staging and decor.
‘Battle on the Beach’ Season 5
HGTV announced the return of its most popular oceanside competition series earlier this month.
“HGTV’s epic surfside home renovation competition Battle on the Beach will head to the Grand Strand, South Carolina’s hot vacation destination,” the network said.
In addition to Ty, “100 Day Dream Home” star Mika Kleinschmidt, and “Renovation Island” star Sarah Baeumler will serve as mentors.
“I think that fans really like that show because you really see people working very hard with their own hands,” Pennington told TV Insider. “So, I think it’s one of those shows that you can tell the aggravation and the frustration of competing on a show like that, because you literally see them screaming in agony, not only with each other, but I think just at how hard it actually is.”
Sydney and Michelle will take on Josiah and Anna Julian from Team Mika, and Steven and Angelina Jacobs from Team Sarah, as they battle for the $50,000 grand prize.
Season 5 of “Battle on the Beach” kicks off with a two-hour season premiere on Monday, June 1.
