HGTV stars Chelsea and Cole DeBoer have found the perfect formula for mixing romance with business success, and their approach is refreshingly simple. The “Down Home Fab” hosts recently shared insights into their professional partnership. The couple spoke during an exclusive interview at the 2025 CMA Awards. The couple revealed how they maintain their close bond while building their renovation empire together.
The couple has the ability to work side by side without growing tired of each other. This has become one of their most distinctive qualities in the home renovation world. Their genuine affection and collaboration have made them fan favorites since their transition from MTV’s “Teen Mom 2” to their HGTV debut, demonstrating that business partnerships can strengthen rather than strain marriages.
The Foundation of Their Partnership
When asked about their secret to working together successfully, Chelsea offered a straightforward explanation. “We actually don’t get sick of each other,” the 34-year-old told Us Weekly during the Nashville event. “We just have so much fun. We always do little lunch dates [so] we’re kind of lucky that we get to be together so much.”
Cole echoed his wife’s feelings, explaining that their approach centers on friendship first. “This is my best friend, so why not work together and do all the things?” the 37-year-old shared, addressing what he noted is their “most asked question” about balancing work and marriage.
Their professional relationship began taking shape long before their HGTV series launched in early 2023. The couple met at a South Dakota gas station in 2014. They married in October 2016 and have since welcomed three children together. Cole has also become a father figure to Chelsea’s daughter, Aubree, from a previous relationship.
The couple’s business acumen has expanded beyond television, with their brick-and-mortar store Down Home by DeBoers opening in March 2024. “It’s a little western-y vibe, but I like a modern western-y mix,” Chelsea described their business. “We’ve got cow hides everywhere, and so we love it. We just launched online and it’s been amazing.”
Growing Confidence & Building Success
The couple has experienced significant professional growth since launching their HGTV career, with both partners developing new skills and confidence levels. Cole has learned the importance of delegation, telling Us Weekly, “One thing I’ve learned is that it’s OK to have a team and give them things to do rather than trying to do everything yourself.”
Chelsea’s evolution has been particularly notable in terms of assertiveness and creative confidence. “Coming into the HGTV world, we were new to the game, and we were just new to remodeling in general,” she shared. “Getting that confidence over the last three years, I’m like, OK, now we’re here and we deserve to be here.”
Her enthusiasm for the HGTV community has added a new perspective to their professional experience. “I’m such an HGTV fan, so the fact that we get to meet the people I’ve watched on TV, I’m like, ‘This is so cool,'” she explained.
The couple’s success has led to expanded opportunities within the HGTV network, including appearances on other shows and competition series. They participated in the sixth season of “Rock the Block” and made guest appearances on the third season of “Home Town Takeover.”
