Chip Gaines is stepping back onto the cover of “Magnolia Journal” alongside wife Joanna Gaines for a milestone issue close to the couple’s hearts. The Fall 2026 edition marks both the lifestyle magazine’s 10th Anniversary and its 40th issue.

To celebrate, Chip joined Joanna for their first cover together in three years, posing outside a cabin surrounded by hints of fall foliage. People shared the first look at the special issue ahead of its August 14 newsstand release.

The Anniversary prompted Joanna to look back at how far the publication has come since its launch.
In a letter to readers, she admitted it felt “mind-bending” that the magazine had already reached 40 issues and made clear she is not ready to stop anytime soon.
“I truly hope we never cease to create this magazine,” she wrote. “That it lives forever, lighting up mailboxes and imaginations and stirring souls the world over. So here’s to 10, or 20, more years of the Journal.”
Joanna also thanked longtime readers and said she hopes the magazine has made them feel included in the ideas, lessons and experiences her team has shared over the years.
Joanna Gaines Opens Up About Learning to Slow Down
The new issue centers on the idea of lingering a little longer instead of constantly racing toward what comes next.
In her editor’s note, Joanna reflected on hosting friends and family and acknowledged that she once had trouble letting an evening simply unfold.
“There was, still, something in me all too willing to call it a night before giving it a chance to wholly unfold. I had this bad habit of blowing out the candles on the table just before the wax would begin to drip,” she recalled.
She said her mindset has changed over time.
“Instead, whenever people are gathered around my table — whether it is a planned or an unexpected moment — I’ll pull out the candlesticks with no end in mind. Instead of watching the clock, I watch the wax gather, then drip. I let it land where it’s meant to, and as for the evening, I let the same hold true,” she wrote.

Magnolia NetworkChip approached the issue’s theme from another angle, writing about his preference for the unexpected route.
“I don’t value the fastest route. In fact, I actively avoid it,” he wrote in his own note.
The 50-year-old builder explained that slowing down can lead to experiences people might otherwise miss, from talking with strangers to discovering an out-of-the-way café.
“What I’ve come to discover over the course of these 50 years is that the finest treasures of the world are found in unexpected places, but a commitment to efficiency too often keeps us from experiencing them,” he shared.
Chip Gaines Is Also Stepping Out on His Own
The anniversary cover arrives as Chip explores another project away from his longtime on-screen partnership with Joanna. He is starring in a new solo YouTube series, “Pretty Good Advice,” marking a rare hosting venture without his wife beside him, as per the official press release shared on August 11. Even with new projects taking shape, the milestone “Magnolia Journal” issue brings the couple back together for a fitting celebration of a brand they have spent years building side by side.
