Dave & Jenny Marrs Welcome Kitten to Their Family
On August 13, Jenny took to Instagram to give a life update, including how they discovered a kitten in a tree on their property.
“It’s been a big week with lots of big emotions (hi, the twins drove themselves to school but that can’t be because they were just my rambunctious little guys a BLINK ago) so when Dave found a kitten stuck in a tree on our property yesterday, making her feel safe was the perfect distraction from my how-can-they-all-be-so-grown-up woes,” the “Fixer to Fabulous” star wrote in the caption.
She continued, “I’ll take her to the vet this morning to see if she has a chip but, if not, she’ll stay. Because, even though he acts like he doesn’t love the chaos, Dave suggested the name Jill since our Jill would’ve loved finding a kitten on the farm. She would’ve taken her in like she did so many times before.”
The kitten added a bit of unexpected joy amid their emotional week. “Everyone is curious about Jill this morning and I’m procrastinating alllllll the things I need to do today by taking videos of this adorableness,” Jenny shared.
“That’s all. That’s the post,” she added. “If you needed some kitten cuteness too, you’re welcome. 🤍🐾”
In her Instagram Stories, Jenny explained how they came home after their “first day ice cream,” to find “Dave shouting for our help rescuing a kitten. This little guy was stuck in a tree in the woods!”
On August 13, Jenny gave an update on their new pet — with a bit of a plot twist.
“Update: no chip and also, it’s a boy! Name pending … ,” she explained.
HGTV Stars Share Kitten’s New Name
Turns out, their new addition wasn’t going to be named Jill (after their late neighbor and friend), but they came up with something “ridiculous,” according to Jenny.
On August 16, she revealed the new name. “We decided on a name: Richard,” she wrote in her Instagram Stories, noting, “It’s just ridiculous enough for a cat’s name that it works for us.”
Their cat Lloyd, however, hasn’t yet taken to Richard, as seen in a funny video Jenny shared with fans in her Stories.
“Lloyd wants nothing to do with Richard. Richard wants to be friends,” she wrote. In the video, Lloyd lays watching the new kitten and Richard is very curious about his brother. At one point, Lloyd turns away, but the kitten remains curious, from a distance.
“He’s mad at us,” Jenny says. “Lloyd, you’re not replaced.”
Lloyd joined the family in February 2025. The HGTV star announced the adoption in a February 7, 2025, Instagram post, writing, “Tonight’s episode ends with a pet adoption event and (shockingly!) we didn’t go home with a new pet that day.”
She continued, “We had no plans to adopt another pet until Holly’s new foster kittens moved in and Lloyd made his way into our hearts. Because you won’t see him tonight, I thought I’d share a little Lloyd reel so you can see how much joy and laughter he’s brought to our family! 🐾🤍”
