Joanna Gaines is leaning into the theme of her Fall 2025 Magnolia Journal magazine. Given that she’s in the season of life that her kids are leaving for college, the former HGTV star shared how the theme speaks to her.
Joanna Gaines Shares How Fall 2025 Magnolia Magazine Theme Relates to Her Life
On August 21, Gaines took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the newest issue of Magnolia Journal.
“When we plan a magazine theme it’s usually a year or more in advance and you can never know for sure how the theme will land when the time comes to share it with the world. And yet, so many times we find it’s the very thing we need to hear a year later,” she explained in the caption.
Gaines continued, “This fall, we’re diving deep into the idea of ‘Embrace’ and this issue has become something of a companion to me as I send my oldest two off to college and try to figure out how the heck I hold them well when it feels like they’re both a world away.”
The “Magnolia Table” star added, “I’m working it out in this issue’s column, trying to answer the question of how we embrace those we love from afar. I hope you might find something useful in it — or — if you’ve already walked this road and hold the secrets to success, then please, I’m all ears.”
Joanna Gaines Is Emotional About her Daughter Going to College
During an August 19 interview on the “Today” show, Gaines gave an update about her kids, noting that two of them just left for college.
Although she felt like she had it figured out as her son left for his third year of school, she said it was “different” with her daughter going across the country for her first year of college.
“The kids are good. I have my oldest son [Drake, 20], now a junior in college,” Gaines explained. “I feel like I’m getting the hang of it. Every time he leaves, it’s not as hard.”
The “Magnolia Table” star shared that it hasn’t been so easy for her to adjust to her 18-year-old daughter, Ella, going to college.
“She left last week. So it’s, like, still raw,” Gaines said. “And it feels different because she went further and she’s my girl. So I thought ‘Oh, I have this down with Drake’ … It’s totally different.”
