Joanna Gaines admits she was starting to lose her cool during a day of antiquing with her daughters on their recent England trip. The HGTV star shared a look at the outing, revealing that she was “crashing out” in the nearly 100-degree heat.
Joanna Gaines Explains Why Antiquing Adventure Had Her ‘Crashing Out’
On August 19, Gaines took to Instagram to share a video of a day spent antiquing in England, kicking off at 5:45 a.m.
“Antiquing trip in the UK? Sign me up!” she wrote in the caption. “Thank you @hohantiques for showing us around — you thought of every detail and were such wonderful hosts!”
“Wasn’t super proud of my performance🫠🥵,” she added. “I’m clearly out of antiquing shape😅 but so excited about all the goodies we get to bring home! #newarkinternationalantiquesfair.”
The day started with a line of people waiting with wagons — and Gaines darting off to find some treasures.
She checked out art and a beautiful wooden bench, asking, “To get or not to get? It’s really cute.” She confirmed that she got it, giving a thumbs up.
At one point, she explained, “Okay, so we are at the Newark antique fair. We’ve been here since 5:45. It’s 10:00 and I am what they call crashing out.”
Gaines continued, “It’s hot. It’s like 100 degrees, 98 degrees … very hot.”
“Found a bunch of goodies,” she shared. “My girls are here and I’ve lost them. They’re sending me pics of fun stuff they’re buying.”
In an effort to pull herself together, Gaines found a quiet place to cool down with a small handheld fan. “So I’m hiding in a barn somewhere and I’ve got a fan and a cooling towel — and I look like my dad when he’s mowing his yard,” she explained.
The “Magnolia Table” star placed cardboard on a pile of folded tables and stretched out, pointing the fan at her face.
Later, she showed off some of the beautiful finds from the antiques fair, including art, miniature plates, small animal figurines, and furniture. They packed up the little items in their luggage for traveling home.

Fans flooded the comments, with one sharing their experience attending the antiques fair. “It sure is a crazy day!!! The first time I went I had to go home and lie in a dark room for 12 hours to recover 😩😂 glad you loved it,” they wrote.

One fan wondered, “How are you shipping all these things back to Texas?” HOH Antiques responded, “We ship!”
Another follower asked, “Jo Jo, how can it be hotter than Texas?! Lol.”
One of her followers explained, “We’ve had one of the hottest summers on record and no rain. Trust me, the heat in the UK is very different to America because our homes/buildings were built to keep heat in! This and we don’t have air conditioning, it’s been pretty unbearable at times. I’ve never known us Brits to be so desperate for rain!”
