Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas are revisiting one of their quirkier home renovations from HGTV‘s “Bargain Block.” Do they still love the design choices they made in season 1 of the series? Find out their favorite parts of the home.
Keith Bynum & Evan Thomas Review Wild ‘Weird House’ Design
During season 1 of “Bargain Block,” Bynum and Thomas completely transformed a rundown home, using eccentric touches in their renovation and design.
On April 14, Bynum and Thomas took to Instagram to revisit the design, writing in the caption, “What were we thinking?!”
“Evan and I take a look back at some of our best anddd worst designs!! I loved this house sooo much! Evan is a harder sell,” the caption shared. “What did yall think of the weird house?!”
In the video, Bynum noted, “We’re taking a look back at some of our best and worst houses.”
They explored the design of the “Weird House,” pointing out some of the hits and misses.
First up: the living room, featuring bright color blocking on the walls and ceiling, a geometric print rug to pull it all together, and a window shaped like the letter D.
Bynum noted, “love,” and Thomas agreed, saying, “Okay, that is pretty badass, in like a movie set kind of way.”
Thomas added, “No one would ever live like this.”
They shared their opinions about the sherbet-colored kitchen, with Thomas saying, “It looks like Barbie’s Dreamhouse.”
Bynum said he loved the bathroom with glow-in-the-dark flowers hand painted on the wall.
Another peculiar feature that Bynum was on board for was the master bedroom’s cowboy altar surrounded by candles.
They both agreed that the upstairs was a hit. Thomas noted it’s “kind of cool — in a weird way.”
Bynum summed it up by saying, “It’s like, if Whoopi Goldberg went to like the gayest nunnery ever.”
“Obviously, Keith was just doing something for fun and doing something basically for the cameras,” Thomas shared. “But it was, I feel like, executed well … for as weird and strange and out there as it was.”
Bynum agreed, noting, “Yeah, it was definitely weird … and I think it lived up to its name. And I think it was fun to find somebody that actually loved it.”
Fans Share Their Love for the Unusual Home Design
Bynum and Thomas’ work on the home was anything but bland and boring. Fans flooded the comments to share their appreciation for the fun design.
“It’s so much better than the cookie cutter things some of the other HGTV people do,” one fan commented. “Also I love the way you turned the front window on its side … The house was just fun.”
Another fan noted, “The weird house got me hooked on you guys!! The color blocking, the kitchen!! I would have lived there in a heartbeat. That’s when I realized your artistry was wayyyyy beyond other designers and how talented you are!!”
“You both are artists!” another fan shared. “Nothing is ever ‘worst design’ with you two!!”
One fan wrote, “Love you guys. Please come back. Another platform please? We miss you. Best show on HGTV ever.”
“I would totally live there! So creative!” another fan raved.
