Lil Jon Shares Heartfelt Memories On Final Trip With Late Son Nathan

Lil Jon is opening up about one of his most cherished memories with his late son, Nathan Smith, in an emotional tribute that’s resonating deeply with fans.

In a heartfelt social media post, the former HGTV star reflected on a trip to Japan the two took together—what would ultimately become their final father-son journey.

Lil Jon’s Touching Post

The video shared glimpses of their time abroad, from exploring shopping centers and trying new foods to visiting the Fuji Speedway and immersing themselves in Japanese culture.

Lil Jon revealed the trip came about after he asked Nathan, who performed as DJ Young Slade, how he wanted to celebrate his birthday.

“Two years ago, I asked Slade what he wanted to do for his birthday. He said, ‘go to Japan.’ I had no idea that trip would become our final father-and-son trip… or his favorite one ever,” he wrote.

The rapper made it clear that every part of the experience was shaped by his son’s interests and choices.

“I gave him options for everything, and he chose it all himself. We did everything—from museums and food tours to Michelin-star sushi spots. We even watched samurai swords being forged… and got to use them.”

The trip also included moments that reflected Nathan’s passions, particularly his love for anime and car culture.

“He was a big anime fan, so we took an anime drawing class together with an anime book author. And he even got to learn how to drift and drive on the streets where the drift culture began.”

Though the trip was elaborate, Lil Jon emphasized that the cost didn’t matter compared to the joy it brought his son.

“It was expensive, but I didn’t care—I saw how happy it made him. He told me it was the most fun he’d ever had on any trip,” he added.

Nathan Passed Earlier in the Year

Now, the memory carries a deeper weight following Nathan’s tragic death at age 27.

The artist confirmed in February that his son had died after a drowning incident, sharing his grief in a statement to People at the time.

“I am extremely heartbroken for the tragic loss of our son, Nathan Smith. His mother [Nicole Smith] and I are devastated,” he said, calling Nathan “the kindest human being you would ever meet.”

Looking back on their final trip together, Lil Jon admitted the experience feels different now.

“It hits different now, knowing we won’t get to make memories like that again,” he heartbreakingly wrote.

He ended his message with a powerful reminder about the importance of cherishing loved ones.

“To anyone reading this—don’t put your family off. Don’t say ‘I’ll see them later’ or ‘We can do that later.’ Don’t skip the long hugs don’t be frugal,” he added. “Make long lasting memories when you can. We all think we have time… but we don’t know Allah’s plan. Love your people hard. You never know when it’s the last hug. Love you, son.”

Since his son’s passing, Lil Jon has continued to honor his memory in meaningful ways.

Lil Jon Recently Got a Tattoo to Remember His Son

He recently got his first tattoo as a tribute, explaining its significance in another emotional message.

“THIS IS MY 1st TATTOO AND I DID IT TO HONOR MY SON @yoitsslade… YOU ARE FOREVER WITH ME, SON, WHEREVER I GO… MISSING YOU EVERY DAY LOVE YOU 💔💔💔”

Through his words and actions, Lil Jon is not only preserving his son’s legacy—but also encouraging others to hold their loved ones a little closer.
