Are you ready for curses and terrifying things that go bump in the night? Then you’ll be excited to hear that “Smile 2” is heading to Netflix with more than enough time to get ready for a Halloween of scares.
Naomi Scott’s terrifying sequel holds an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics. This is one of those cases when the audience score is slightly lower, at 81%, making it clear that this is a horror movie to check out. There’s not long to wait, as “Smile 2” will head to Netflix next month.
When Will ‘Smile 2’ Come To Netflix?
GettyWhat’s on Netflix has the first look at the movies and shows heading to the streaming giant throughout the month of September. “Smile 2” is slated to arrive on Sept. 3, 2026. It’s not clear how long the 2024 hit will be on the platform, but this is the first time, and that usually means a few months.
As it was produced by Temple Hill Entertainment and Bad Feeling, it’s hard to determine the licensing agreements, as they’re on a case-by-case basis. It was distributed by Paramount Pictures, which is why it went to Paramount+ first, and there are no clear deals as there are with the likes of Universal and Sony.
You will need two platforms if you want to watch the first “Smile” movie again before jumping into the sequel. The 2022 surprise hit is available to stream on Hulu and Paramount+. It does raise the question of whether it’s best to buy the movies on DVD and Blu-Ray to keep everything in one place.
Audiences and critics raved about the performances throughout “Smile 2,” with many praising Scott’s lead, and thought about the real meaning behind the horror. One critic brought reality to the horror, sharing, “I couldn’t help but think of the public mental breakdowns of celebrities like Brittany Spears while watching this movie. It really gives perspective into the pressures of a job where hundreds of people are relying on you to perform.”
An audience member shares, “Naomi Scott delivers a phenomenal performance as a pop star unraveling under the weight of fame, trauma, and a supernatural curse, giving the film a tragic core that makes the horror hit even harder.”
What Is ‘Smile 2’ About?
The ‘Smile’ sequel follows the same terrifying curse as the first one. This time, global pop star Skye Riley is the one who finds herself in the middle of the nightmare. While recovering from substance abuse, she witnesses a gruesome death that leads to her being infected with a supernatural entity.
This entity causes tormenting hallucinations, and the only way to get rid of it is to take her own life. There are attempts by others to pass on the curse to villains and criminals in an attempt to give them some much-needed karma, but good plans don’t always work out.
This is one of those mind-bending horrors, as you start to think about everything that can go bump in the night. There’s a push for the main character to beat the supernatural curse, but then the question is how to do it. Could it mean going back to the origins of the curse to figure out why it even started, or can people only live in the moment?
With the way the movie ends, you’ll be sure to want a third installment. The great news is that Paramount Pictures has stated that “Smile 3” is in development, but there is no official release date as of yet.
There are other huge movie releases coming to Netflix in September. If you love horror, you may want to check out the 2001 release “Valentine,” but if you’re more in the mood for a movie about life and love, “The Art of Racing in the Rain” is joining the streamer at the start of the month.
