According to Akon, that role is not up for debate. “Nobody violates Wife Number One. The moment they violate, out the door,” he said, emphasizing that she “comes first” and that “there’s levels” within his marriages.
He also credited her as the foundation of everything, adding, “That one is the reason why I even got one, two or three. She’s the queen, period.”
Despite the openness, Akon still chose not to reveal exactly how many wives he currently has, telling listeners he would “leave that to your imagination.” Over the years, reports have varied, with some suggesting he has two wives and others claiming up to four.

Beyond the hierarchy, Akon made it clear that communication is what keeps everything running smoothly. He explained that everyone involved has to understand the dynamic from the start and agree to the structure in place.
“You gotta be mature enough to know that if this is the situation that I’m gonna park in, I have to communicate,” he said, adding that once expectations are set, “just abide by them.”
He also shared that the responsibility largely falls on him. As the central figure in the family, Akon said it’s his role to make sure none of his wives feel “compromised,” “disrespected” or “unvalued.”
At the same time, he believes the setup works because there is support within the household. He explained that responsibilities like childcare and daily tasks can be shared, helping maintain balance across the family.
Akon also noted that his wives are not allowed to have other partners, reinforcing that he is “the only man” in the dynamic. He added that his first wife remains his emergency contact “no matter what,” again highlighting her importance.
The singer, who is a father of nine, said maintaining harmony comes down to mutual understanding and honesty. “If you’re going to do it, be honest about it,” he said.
