Britney Spears is warning her followers to be cautious about cosmetic injections after claiming a Botox treatment caused one of her eyes to droop.
The 44-year-old singer said her left eye is finally beginning to look normal again after she experienced an unexpected reaction that lasted several weeks.
In an August 7 Instagram video, Britney claimed a doctor injected too much Botox near her left eye.
“[My doctor] put so much Botox in this left eye that it drooped down,” Britney said. “It’s just now starting to raise up and be normal again.”
Britney claimed the doctor was embarrassed by the results. She also said her eye remained affected for approximately four weeks before it began to improve.
The “Baby One More Time” singer captioned her Instagram post, “You can’t trust anyone!!!”
A Warning About Cosmetic Injections
Britney used her experience to encourage other women to research medical providers before receiving cosmetic injections.
“Girls, you have to be careful if you do Botox,” she said. “These people and these doctors can really f*** your eyes up.”
Britney went on to stress the importance of maintaining control over decisions involving one’s appearance.
“Be careful with your bodies because it’s yours and you own it,” she said.
Her comments reflect a larger theme Britney has addressed throughout her post-conservatorship life. Since the legal arrangement ended in November 2021, she has frequently discussed autonomy, personal freedom and the right to make decisions about her own body.
This Was Not Britney’s First Difficult Botox Experience
Britney has previously spoken about having negative experiences with Botox and other cosmetic procedures.
In an August 2023 Instagram post, the Grammy winner said she had struggled to find a doctor who could give her the results she wanted. She claimed that some injections left her unable to comfortably go out in public for up to two weeks.
Britney contrasted those experiences with a lip procedure she received in New York City, which she described as subtle and flattering.
“My first time, I just did [my] lips in New York City,” she wrote. “So subtle, it was an adorable pout.”
Her Botox experiences, however, left a much different impression.
Britney Previously Described Facial Swelling
Britney also claimed that a previous Botox injection caused significant swelling in her face.
“Sometimes the nerves act that way and have a reverse effect,” she recalled in 2023, adding that she felt as though she looked like “somebody beat” her.
According to Britney, a doctor initially told her to wait one or two weeks for the swelling to improve. She questioned why such a reaction should be considered normal if it prevented her from feeling comfortable leaving home.
At the time, she declared that she was finished with Botox.
Britney Continues to Speak Candidly
Britney has long used social media to speak openly about her appearance, body image and experiences in the public eye.
In her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” the singer reflected on growing up under intense scrutiny and having her body constantly evaluated throughout her career.
