Elvis Presley remains one of the most recognizable figures in entertainment, almost half a decade after his death on August 16, 1977. Having established himself as the “King of Rock and Roll” during the mid 1950s, Presley had a series of signature looks that evolved until he passed away at the age of 42.
While most people will have a definitive image of Presley in their mind, there’s a good chance that you’ll have no idea what he looked like as a child long before he was famous. Now you can see what the singer and actor looked like in his younger days alongside his parents.
Elvis Presley Poses for a Photograph With His Parents
GettyThe photograph shows Presley standing with his parents outside of their home where he grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi. According to Getty, the image is from circa 1945, meaning that Presley will have been around 10 years old. This was before the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee
Gladys Love (née Smith) and Vernon Presley were both born in Mississippi. They were married at a young age, with Vernon just 17 and Gladys aged 21, and had Presley two years later in 1935 along with his twin brother who was stillborn. The pair moved in with Presley at his Memphis estate, known as Graceland, along with many other family members until their own eventual deaths.
The photo dates from around the time that Presley first began to perform publicly, taking part in school competitions and learning to play guitar.
Priscilla Presley Remembers Elvis Presley
GettyPriscilla Presley, the former wife of the singer, recently remembered her favorite memory of Elvis Presley during an interview Hello!
“He had the best laugh … He just had a great sense of humour and [was] fun to be with,” she recalled.
During the same interview, she also spoke about her daughter and granddaughter.
She spoke about a time when she took Lisa Marie Presley to see Elvis perform, saying, “She’d spent extensive time with him at Graceland. We still cared for each other.” Lisa Marie passed away in 2023 following complications from weight loss surgery.
“My granddaughter Riley and I are very close. She’s just a wonderful mother. It’s wonderful seeing your grandchild grow up, and she’s been so successful. We’re all very close, all of us in the family,” Priscilla said.
