Hilary Duff has honored her late ex-boyfriend and Lizzie McGuire guest star and “Dancing with the Stars” alum Aaron Carter four years after his tragic death. The Younger actress wore a sweet tribute on her recent world tour.
As child entertainers both coming up in Hollywood at the same time, Duff and Carter were romantically linked from 2000 until around 2003. He also appeared in an episode of her Disney Channel sitcom Lizzie McGuire called “Aaron Carter’s Coming to Town.”
How Hilary Duff Paid Tribute To Aaron Carter On Her Tour
Hilary Duff wore a shirt with the singer and actor’s name and photo on it during the Philadelphia date of her “Lucky Me” tour. Carter passed away in 2022, aged just 34.
The short-sleeved shirt featured a young Carter, standing in jean overalls and a white-and-red shirt. The background featured blue circles and his name.
This comes days after Duff was joined on stage by her ex Joel Madden. Two decades after their split, the singer was joined onstage by Good Charlotte during her sold-out MSG concert.
Carter’s 2022 death was ruled at the time by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner as an accidental drowning due to the effects of alprazolam, a type of Xanax, and inhaling compressed air.
At the time, Duff wrote a tribute to the late star. “For Aaron- I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world,” she wrote.
She continued: “You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent… boy did my teenage self love you deeply. Rest easy.”
Hilary Duff Believed Aaron Carter Communicated With Her Via Psychic
Hilary Duff has been open about her relationship with Carter over the years, revealing that she thinks of him years after his passing.
She told the Las Culturistas podcast earlier this year that a psychic identified her during an anonymous phone call and told her Aaron was communicating with her.
“She said, ‘Well, people are gonna start showing up for you. And there is someone here: Aaron,’” Duff told hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. “I was like, oh no, my heart. I was like, ‘Oh my God.’”
She added, “I was like, ‘…Is it Aaron Carter?’ And she was like, ‘Sure is! What the hell is he doing here?’ And I was like, ‘Well that’s my childhood boyfriend and that would make sense to me.’ And she’s like, ‘Are you Hilary Duff?’”
In November 2022, Duff publicly criticized the publisher of the “Crush on You” singer’s posthumous memoir, which made personal and unverified
“It’s really sad that within a week of Aaron’s death, there’s a publisher that seems to be recklessly pushing a book out to capitalize on this tragedy without taking appropriate time or care to fact-check the validity of his work,” the singer and actress told the Daily Mail.
“To water down Aaron’s life story to what seems to be unverified clickbait for profit is disgusting,” she continued, calling the book “an uninformed, heartless money grab.”
