Blake Lively’s Revealing Reaction to Taylor Swift’s New Album Sheds Light on Friendship Status

Taylor Swift has been friends with “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively for around a decade, often shouting out the actress on social media. In early 2025, after the “Willow” singer was pulled into the center of a disagreement between Lively and her “It Ends With Us” costar Justin Baldoni, fans questioned whether the pals were on rocky ground.

In a court filing, the film’s co-lead and director Justin Baldoni, who shot to fame in his role as Rafael on “Jane the Virgin,” included a now-infamous text message in a court filing of Lively appearing to call Swift a “gorgeous monster” who is always on her side. Baldoni also alleges Swift was present during an uncomfortable meeting in which Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds pressured Baldoni to use Lively’s re-written version of a script for one of the film’s pivotal scenes, known as “the rooftop scene.”

After all the drama, Lively was notably absent from the 2024 Super Bowl after previously being a mainstay in Swift’s box. This led fans to speculate there was a rift between the pals.

Now, Blake Lively is making a strong statement by supporting her famous friend. Read on to learn about the telling move the actress made.

Blake Lively’s Reaction to ‘The Life of a Showgirl’

As fans know, Swift dropped her 12th studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ on Friday, October 3. The Hollywood Reporter says the project sold 2.7 million copies the day of its release, immediately giving her the second-largest sales week for any album. The record came in second only to Adele’s “25,” which moved 3.8 million units the week of its debut, per Rolling Stone.

The same day of the album release, TMZ took note that Lively left a sign of support by “liking” Swift’s most recent post, a Carousel of photos showing the starlet dressed in glittering outfits for her album artwork. The “Blank Space” singer captioned the photos, “Tonight all these lives converge here. The mosaics of laughter and cocktails of tears. Where fraternal souls sing identical things. And it’s beautiful. It’s rapturous. It is frightening.”

The 35-year-old megastar went on to tell fans the album feels “so right” and she’s proud to share it. She also thanked producers Max Martin and Shellback for their contributions. Martin has contributed to several of Swift’s biggest pop hits, including “Style,” “Blank Space,” and “Out of the Woods.” His reunion with Swift was highly anticipated.

Why Fans Think ‘Cancelled’ Is About Blake Lively

Taylor Swift and Blake Lively have not been publicly seen together since October 2024, but fans think Swift’s new song, “Cancelled!” might hint that the longtime pals are still tight. The lyrics go, “Good thing I like my friends cancelled. I like ’em cloaked in Gucci and scandal.” Lively famously wore Gucci at the 2013 and 2014 Met Galas, among other occasions.

The song’s next line goes, “Like my whiskey sour, and poison thorny flowers.” Flowers were a huge focal point of Lively’s “It Ends With Us” media campaign in the spring and summer of 2024.

However, other fans don’t think the song is necessarily proof they are still close. Some fans on a Reddit thread speculated it is meant as a “frenemy” song.

Another track, “Ruin the Friendship,” was highly speculated to be about Lively because of its title, but it appears not to be. Instead, the song discusses the tension of trying to decide whether or not to pursue romance with a friend at the risk of losing them.
