Beloved R&B artist Glenn “Oneil” Wright, otherwise known as Glenn Oneil, a member of Public Announcement, sadly passed away on Feb. 22 after a courageous battle with cancer, his obituary states. He was 55 years old.
Oneil’s death was announced on Public Announcement’s Facebook, where his industry family celebrated the legacy he leaves behind.
“The platinum singing group Public Announcement announces with deep sorrow the passing of their beloved brother, Glenn Oneil,” the statement said. “Public Announcement extends heartfelt love, strength, and prayers to Glenn’s family, loved ones, and to the entire PA family during this time of profound loss.”
Glenn Oneil Remembered as ‘Source of Inspiration’
“Glenn Oneil was more than a powerful voice — he was a vessel of faith, a servant of God, and a source of inspiration to countless lives,” the statement continued.
“Glenn Oneil’s impact on music and ministry will continue to resonate through the messages he carried, the lives he transformed, and the faith he exemplified,” the statement added. “His song now continues in heaven, and his legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him and experience his ministry. Rest in peace Glenn, your legacy lives on.”
Members of the platinum-selling R&B group honored their friend with a personal statement within the official announcement, writing, “May God wrap His arms around the entire PA family, Glenn’s loved ones, and everyone whose life he touched. His voice, spirit, and legacy will live on through every note sung, every soul uplifted, and every life changed.”
Oneil joined Public Announcement in 1996 after former member R Kelly left the group. He remained active until 2024 alongside longtime members Ace Watkins, Feloney Davis and Mar Kannler.
In honor of his death and the impact he made on those who knew him and respected his craft as an R&B singer, Greer Music and Filmworks (GMF) shared via Facebook that they will provide an annual scholarship in Oneil’s honor to a deserving high school student of the arts.
“The entire GMF Family is devastated to hear the news of our Dear Friend and Brother Glenn O’Neil. He was integral part of our team and family,” GMF wrote on behalf of Oneil’s passing. “His melodically powerful sound will forever be remembered and cherished. Heaven has another lead vocalist and your voice will continue to shine through the clouds, for years to come.”
Glenn Oneil Fans Mourn His Passing
Following news of Oneil’s death, fans of his and Public Announcement shared their condolences on Instagram, also noting that he is the second beloved group member to have recently passed after Earl Robinson died only a few months back, in October 2025.
“My sympathy must go out to Glenn ‘O’Neil’ Wright’s family. When I see the name Public Announcement, ‘Body Bumpin’ comes to mind,” commented one, The Fleet Mag reported.
“My God this is second we lost from the group. Rest in peace 🥲🙏🏾🕊️,” wrote another.
“Rest in peace, young Brotha…..,” added a third.
