Luann de Lesseps from the “Real Housewives of New York City” was left feeling flustered after muddling up her words and accidentally saying the wrong thing about iconic singer Jennifer Lopez. The reality TV star was instantly shown her mistake by a producer and issued an apology to the “On The Floor” hitmaker, doubling down and saying she really hopes JLo is not “offended” and that she “loves her”. The moment was clearly a mishap and Luann meant well – and who doesn’t love Jennifer Lopez?!
What Did Luann de Lesseps Say?
GettyThe former Real Housewife was chatting during a recent episode of the Bravo show’s spin-off series, “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip”, and conversation turned to former “American Idol” judge JLo after Luann was trying to explain how now she’s divorced from ex-husband French count Alexandrede Lesseps she doesn’t need to be called a countess.
Luann explained it using Jennifer as an example, saying: “I’m really just Lu from Connecticut. … Like J.Lo is from … the ‘hood?”
The TV star meant to say from ‘the block’ in reference to JLo’s popular song “Jenny From The Block” from 2002, but found herself mixing up the lyrics. A producer pointed out the mistake to her, questioning: “Um, ‘From the Block?”
Luann then apologetically responded by saying: “Oh, sorry!”
Chatting further about the moment in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Luann admitted to completely forgetting the lyric. She shared: “I couldn’t think! Because, let me tell you, I lived for many years in Europe during the ’90s and 2000s. Of course I know ‘Jenny From the Block,’ but I forgot. So I said ‘the ‘hood.’ I’m a little embarrassed.”
Luann then ended her explanation by saying: “I hope J.Lo is not upset with me, because I love her.”
Jenny From The Block
Jennifer Lopez released her hit song ‘Jenny From The Block’ in the early 2000s and it achieved massive success. It peaked at the number three spot on the Billboard Hot 100, debuted in the top five on the UK Singles Chart, and topped the charts in Canada.
The record celebrated JLo’s upbringing in the Bronx and spoke abut how she is still ‘Jenny From The Block’ despite now reaching increasing levels of fame. In turn, ‘Jenny From The Block’ stuck as somewhat of a nickname for Jennifer alongside the coveted abbreviation of “JLo”.
The record was also huge at the time because the music video for the song featured her then-fiancé Ben Affleck. The duo got married in July of 2022 after rekindling their 2000s romance in 2021, but unfortunately decided to go their separate ways two years later in 2024, with Jennifer filing for divorce. The couple’s divorce was finalized in early 2025. Jennifer cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the split and noted that the couple had been living busy, separate lives for months prior to making the decision.
Neither Jennifer or Ben have publicly revealed that they are dating anyone else at the moment. Jennifer has been busy traveling the world and performing, while Ben recently lost his mother Chris, 83, following her battle with pancreatic cancer.
