Salma Hayek and Adam Sandler have reunited to film “Grown Ups 3,” which is in production 13 years after the franchise’s second film, “Grown Ups 2,” was released in 2013, and the original “Grown Ups” in 2010. The announcement has been met with great excitement from fans, and now a first look at two of the film’s stars on set has been shared.
First Look at ‘Grown Ups 3’
In photos obtained by Page Six, Hayek and Sandler wear bright orange rain jackets while sitting on a ride. They appear to be in an amusement park or a water park. The publication posted the photos in the early hours of Tuesday, September 1.
“Grown Ups 3” is currently in production in New Jersey, and Netflix reports that many of the old cast will return for the third installment. In addition to Sandler and Hayek, actors reprising their roles include Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph, and Maria Bello. New stars in the film include Julie Bowen, Deon Cole, and Bailee Madison.
“Now that their kids are all grown up, the gang is finally free to go on the ultimate adventure,” the film’s synopsis reads, Variety reports.
No release date for the film has been shared, but it will air on Netflix. The streaming giant announced in May 2026 that the third installment would be coming to Netflix, directed by Kyle Newacheck and the screenplay written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy. In August, Sandler shared a photo on Instagram of himself and the cast sitting at a dinner table. “We missed you,” he wrote in the caption.
Fans have remarked on the absence of Cameron Boyce, who passed away in 2019. No update has been shared about how Boyce’s character’s absence will be explained in the latest film.
His loss has been felt deeply, though, including by Sander, who paid tribute to him at the end of his 2020 comedy, “Hubie Halloween.” The tribute read: “In loving memory of CAMERON BOYCE. Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day,” Entertainment Weekly reports.
How ‘Grown Ups’ Helped Salma Hayek Embrace New Acting Genres
Hayek has previously expressed joy at being included in Sandler’s comedy film and revealed how it helped her avoid typecasting. In an interview with GQ U.K. in February 2023, she said, “My entire life I wanted to do comedy and people wouldn’t give me comedies. I couldn’t land a role until I met Adam Sandler, who put me in a comedy, but I was in my forties! They said, ‘You’re sexy, so you’re not allowed to have a sense of humor.’”
She continued, “Not only are you not allowed to be smart, but you were not allowed to be funny in the ’90s.” Sandler’s 2010 “Grown Ups” helped Hayek to break that mold, and she has now embraced multiple genres. “Now here I am doing every genre, in a time in my life where they told me I would have expired — that the last 20 years I would have been out of business,” she said. “So I’m not sad, I’m not angry; I’m laughing.”
