Hit Crime Drama Returns to Netflix After Four Years

A popular crime drama series that last aired on Netflix in 2022 is returning to the streaming giant with a brand new second season later this week. The Danish show “The Chestnut Man” will continue with the release of “The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek” on May 7 when the latest batch of episodes hit Netflix, putting an end to an almost five-year hiatus since the first season dropped.

‘The Chestnut Man’ Returns to Netflix on May 7

The first season of “The Chestnut Man” arrived on Netflix in September, 2021 and achieved widespread critical acclaim. In fact, the show managed to attract a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a respectable audience score.

The Danish language series adapts the story of the Søren Sveistrup novel of the same name, while the second season looks to be borrowing from the second book in the series “Hide and Seek.” It stars Danica Curcic and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard as two police investigators in the form of Naia Thulin and Mark Hess.

Throughout the first season of “The Chestnut Man,” the two detectives follow the trail of a serial killer who targets women and leaves behind keepsakes at the scene of the gruesome crimes.

However, the second season follows the investigators hunting down a new suspect after the conclusion to the original case. The official synopsis for the new batch of episodes reads:

“A 41-year-old woman is reported missing, and when the police unravel her digital footprints, it becomes evident that she has been stalked for months. An unidentified perpetrator has been playing an involuntary game of hide and seek, surveilling her while sending her not only images and videos but also a seemingly innocent nursery rhyme-style counting song. When the woman is later found murdered, it becomes evident that this case can be linked to a similar, unsolved murder case of a 17-year-old high school student who was found murdered two years ago. But what is the connection between the two victims? And when will the perpetrator begin to ‘play’ hide and seek again?”

‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ Also Returning to Netflix This Month

“The Chestnut Man” is not the only crime drama series that is returning to Netflix in the coming weeks. The streaming company has also revealed that “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” is coming back for a second season, two years after the debut season was first launched.

The likes of Misia Butler, Eden H. Davies, and Jack Rowan are joining the cast for season 2, which includes both Emma Myers and Zain Iqbal.

“I’m feeling very nostalgic,” Myers said in a social media video. “This season has been really special to me and I’m so excited for everybody to see it.”

According to Netflix, the new season will see Myers’ character Pippa Fitz-Amobi take on a new case.

The synopsis reads, “After she solved the Andie Bell case in Season 1, Pip’s world has been transformed by her actions, and not always for the better. Pip is determined to fix the fallout — and stay away from any more investigations. But as Max Hastings’ (Henry Ashton) trial approaches, key witness Jamie Reynolds (Davies) suddenly disappears and Pip finds herself in a race against time to find him. This new mystery will take Pip to unexpected places as she struggles with the idea of justice, straying even further from the “good girl” she once was.”
