Hallmark Star Sarah Drew Names the Romance Novel She Can’t Bring to Set, Despite Loving It

It seems like everyone has that book. The one you love, the one you recommend, and the one you absolutely cannot be caught reading in public. For Hallmark star Sarah Drew that book just so happens to be a wildly popular fantasy romance. Yep, the one that has taken over BookTok and stolen the hearts of Fantasy Romance lovers everywhere.

While appearing on the “Cait & Court’s Cozy Corner” podcast on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Drew got candid about her current read and why it’s staying far, far away from any film set she’s working on. And honestly? If you’ve read it, you probably get it.

‘Blushing All the Way Up to My Forehead’

Drew didn’t hold back when reacting to the book in question… “Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros.

I can’t read this book in public… could not bring this book to a set,” she admitted after hearing more about Courtney Richter’s experience with the series. “Blushing all the way up to my forehead,” Drew added. Making it very clear this isn’t exactly a casual, coffee-shop kind of read.

Let’s be real; fans of “Fourth Wing” know exactly what she’s talking about.

Podcast host Caitlin Stryker broke down why the book hits so hard, especially for readers who come for the fantasy and stay for… well, everything else.

This book comes along for a very… it’s very well done but it goes along for a very long time like just bringing you into the… into the whole world,” Cait explained. “It takes a minute before you get to this place. So you kind of go, ‘oh yeah,’ this is like a real, you know, really good fantasy and such an interesting world that you’re drawn in and you’re like, ‘wait, we’re we’re riding dragons’ and the whole thing. And then, you know… and I’m reading it at this point crashes… and I’m like lightning.

That slow-burn buildup is exactly what makes the payoff hit differently.

Sarah Drew Says, ‘It’s Been Earned’

Drew agreed with that take, pointing out that the book’s pacing is a big part of why those now-infamous scenes land the way they do.

By the time you get to those spicy scenes, it’s just… it’s been earned,” she said. “And you’re right, it doesn’t come till chapter 30. It’s deep in there.

Yep, you read that right… chapter 30. This isn’t a rush job. It’s a commitment.

And if you needed more proof that Drew is fully in her “Fourth Wing” era. She even showed off some themed merch during the podcast. Think a coffee cup featuring the iconic “I will not die today” line and a “Xaddy” t-shirt. Subtle? Not even a little. But fans love to see it.

Of course, Drew’s reading habits are just one piece of a very full plate. Many fans still associate her with her longtime role on “Grey’s Anatomy,” where she played April Kepner. But in recent years, she’s carved out a strong presence in the Hallmark world.

Her credits include fan-favorite films like “Christmas in Vienna” (2020), “Guiding Emily” (2023), “Branching Out” (2024), and the “Mistletoe Murders” series. More recently, her film “The Stars Between Us” premiered in February 2026, continuing her streak of heartfelt, feel-good storytelling.

She’s also been involved in more personal, purpose-driven projects. Drew starred in “Venice Days,” an indie film written and directed by Bradley Stryker, the husband of podcast host Caitlin Stryker. The project aims to raise money for unhoused individuals and fire victims. A meaningful cause that adds even more depth to her already diverse career.

So while Drew might not be bringing “Fourth Wing” to set anytime soon, it’s safe to say she’s still fully booked. And clearly having fun along the way.
