Andy Dick is back in the public eye. The comedian was recently spotted greeting fans and signing autographs at a Hollywood convention in Los Angeles, marking one of his most notable public appearances since surviving a near-fatal overdose late last year that he later claimed had briefly left him dead.
Signing Autographs for Fans
Several months after a near-fatal overdose, Dick was seen happily signing autographs for fans in Los Angeles.
In the photos, which were shared by Page Six, the comedian was seen at a booth at the Hollywood Show convention on Friday, May 29. Dick could be seen talking with attendees and signing his signature for them.
The “NewsRadio” alum, 60, could be seen wearing a pinstriped jacket over a black T-shirt for the outing.
Apparent Overdose
This rare appearance by Andy Dick comes just five months after he was found unconscious during an apparent overdose in Los Angeles.
On December 9, Adam Carbone and Alexander Bailey were filming with Dick while in Hollywood. At the time, the comedian left the group and smoked crack cocaine with a random man on the street. TMZ had obtained footage of the incident, which showed the “Road Trip” star slumped over on concrete steps. Bystanders could be seen trying to revive him and asking to call for help.
The comedian, who has a significant history of drug and alcohol issues, was revived after receiving four shots of Narcan, which is a drug that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses.
After this terrifying incident, he told Page Six that he “legit died.”
Dick said, “This is not funny, and I don’t remember this, but they say I came back to life, sat up, and the first thing outta my mouth was, ‘Where’s the vodka?’”
He added, “I don’t remember. I was still out of it … just coming back from death and Narcan’d up. I was out of my mind.”
After the incident, Dick checked himself into rehab at a facility in Palm Springs. Less than two months later, he checked himself out.
In an interview with Page Six, Dick said, “[I’ve been to rehab] many, many, many, many, many times. This one feels different, I think, mostly because I actually legit died, and I can’t believe I came back to life.”
Dick Received a CAT Scan
During an appearance on “Howie Mandel Does Stuff,” Dick talked about the near-death incident. He joked, “There were no bright lights. I wish [there were], I’d go back.”
During this latest incident, Dick apparently had a CAT scan done. He told Howie Mandel, “They did a CAT scan thing, or whatever they call it in your brain, and I have all these – there’s about five to seven holes.”
These brain lesions, according to the Cleveland Clinic, can occur as a result of several conditions. This includes stress and traumatic brain injuries.
Page Six talked with Dick’s representatives, who said the apparent “holes” are from a previous incident.
In a statement to Page Six, the rep explained, “The issue with his brain is from the 2019 attack that almost killed Andy when an unprovoked attacker cold-cocked Andy while he was outside of the club he and Paris Dylan had just performed.”
The rep did state that they “are assured that his brain will heal,” and while Dick “has been battling his addictions for years,” he is “healthy, sober, and doing great.”
