Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck lost their father earlier this year, just months before the death of their mother.
Casey announced the tragic news during a press conference for his movie “Company” at the 2026 Venice International Film Festival.
Father’s Passing
GettyTimothy “Tim” Byers Affleck passed away quietly earlier this year, Casey revealed.
“It’s dedicated to my parents because I lost both my mom and my dad this year, and they were very important to me,” he told the crowd of his upcoming film, in which he starred, directed and co-wrote, per Page Six.
Casey added, “I really wanted to show this movie to them, and I didn’t get to. I think they would have liked it.”
“The good thing about being an artist, the best thing maybe, is that you can take all of the hardest experiences in your life and put it into your work, and it just makes you better,” the “Manchester By the Sea” star said. “If you’re willing to face it all, be honest about it all and show up vulnerably with those feelings and allow for the fact that you might not be able to really fully understand them, but you’re willing to put them into what you’re making, it’s a blessing.”
Ben previously opened up about his father’s battles with alcoholism, telling People in 2020, “My father has 30 years of sobriety, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what that takes and what that means.”
“Part of being an adult is learning that your parents are just people,” Ben added. “They’re not perfect. They were just doing their best. As a child, we expect perfection out of our parents.”
Exactly when Tim passed away remains unclear, but Ben and Casey also lost their mother, Chris Anne Affleck, earlier this year.
Mother’s Passing
GettyBen and Casey lost their mother in June after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Chris Anne Affleck was given just six months to live in December 2025.
“Her favorite young people, however, were her sons, Benjamin Géza (b.1972) and Caleb Casey (b.1975). Her five grandchildren, Indiana (2004), Violet (2005), Atticus (2008), Fin (2009), and Sam (2012), were the animating force of her last two decades. Chris was suitably proud of her descendants’ achievements, but she was delighted when they questioned, defied, or cleverly engaged authority,” her obituary read.
Ben gushed about his mom’s support of his career in a 2007 interview with Parade.
“I got into acting as a young child on account of a sort of arbitrary thing. A friend of my mom’s was a casting director so, really as kind of a lark,” he said at the time. “I had a couple of acting jobs that had just enough exposure to give me the option to continue if I wanted to. I followed through with it.”
She was even his date to the 1998 Academy Awards when he and best friend Matt Damon won for their film “Good Will Hunting.”
“There was nobody else that was going to go,” he explained to Vanity Fair in 2023. “That was it. Of course, our moms were gonna go. That was really innocent and not faked.”
