Catherine O’Hara has passed away. Her death was announced on Friday, January 30, and her rep revealed that the “Schitt’s Creek” star had passed away in her Los Angeles Bentwood home, following a brief illness, TMZ reports. She was 71.

O’Hara is celebrated for her work in “Home Alone,” “Schitt’s Creek,” and “Beetlejuice,” among many other projects, but it was the 1988 film “Beetlejuice” where she met her husband. Welch is a production designer.

The two formed a friendship while working on the set of Tim Burton’s original film, and that friendship blossomed into something more. The actress recalled how they first met in an interview, saying, “He talked to me all the time. We’d hang out on the set, and we’d have some laughs. I thought, ‘He’s going to ask me out,’” People reports.

Welch was slow to ask O’Hara out, and she spoke to Burton about it. She recalled the conversation with Burton like this: “‘Bo Welch keeps talking to me every day but never asks me out.’” Burton told her, “‘Let me see what I can do.’” With Burton’s help, they would have their first date.

O’Hara and Welch got married on April 25, 1992. Two years later, in 1994, they welcomed their first child, Matthew. In 1997, they became parents for the second time, welcoming their son, Luke.

O’Hara was Canadian, but she left her country to live in Los Angeles with Welch. “I was in Beetlejuice, and the production designer, Bo Welch, was very attractive, and he finally asked me out,” she told The New Yorker in an interview in January 2019. “We went on location at the end of the movie, and we started dating. I moved to L.A. to be with him. Yeah, I moved for love.”
