Nicolas Cage’s Ex, Christina Fulton, stopped outside a Los Angeles courthouse this week and, despite carrying her own heartbreak, took a moment to speak about another family’s pain.
According to a TMZ report, Fulton had arrived for a hearing in her case against her son, Weston Cage. Just steps away, reporters crowded the courthouse for Nick Reiner’s arraignment. In the same building, two families stood at the center of separate but deeply personal legal battles.
Christina Fulton Says Her ‘Heart Aches’ for Reiner Family
The scene was heavy. Cameras flashed. Questions flew. And at the center of it all were parents and children, love and loss, and the kind of anguish no family ever expects to face.
Fulton spoke to TMZ and said her heart aches for the Reiners.
“I know what that feels like … as a mother who has had a similar situation to go through with my son,” she said, adding that she understands the emotional toll such cases take on parents.
Nick Reiner Pleads Not Guilty to Double Murder Charges
GettyNBC News reported that Nick Reiner, 32, the son of director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of first-degree murder in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Prosecutors allege he stabbed his parents to death inside their Brentwood home on Dec. 14. He faces two murder counts with a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. Authorities also allege he used a knife, an enhancement that could increase the penalty if he is convicted.
Reiner appeared in court wearing a tan jail-issued jumpsuit with his head closely shaved. He agreed to waive his right to a speedy trial. Judge Teresa McGonigle entered two not-guilty pleas on his behalf.
The arraignment had been scheduled earlier this year but was postponed after criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson asked to withdraw from the case.
Public defender Kimberly Greene later requested a new date.
The New York Times reported that Rob and Michele were discovered in the primary bedroom of their home after paramedics responded to a call. Prosecutors said the killings occurred in the early morning hours. Nick Reiner was arrested later that evening in the Exposition Park area, roughly 15 miles from the family’s residence.
Fulton Reflects on Her Own Family Crisis
Fulton’s comments carried added weight given her own recent allegations involving her son.
The L.A. Times reported that the actress has accused Weston Cage of assaulting her during what she described as a manic episode on April 28, 2024. She later filed a lawsuit against Weston over the alleged attack.
Outside the court, Fulton acknowledged the parallels she sees between the cases.
“I had a similar situation … but thankfully I’m alive,” she said.
She added that her case will return to court on May 20 as she seeks restitution for injuries she says she sustained.
Weston Cage was also seen entering the court but did not speak to reporters. He walked into the courthouse accompanied by an unidentified woman. While the circumstances differ, Fulton’s message focused on empathy.
The Reiner family is facing a criminal case involving the loss of two parents. Fulton is pursuing civil action while trying to reconcile her role as a mother and a plaintiff. As court proceedings continue in both cases, Fulton made clear that her thoughts remain with the Reiners as they endure their own unimaginable loss.
The courtroom may be the setting for legal arguments. Outside, the emotion is harder to contain.
