Dakota Johnson and Role Model have called it quits less than a year after they first sparked romance rumors.
Johnson, 36, and the singer, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, 29, ended their relationship “a while ago,” a source told People. The insider did not reveal exactly when the two split or what led to their breakup.
The breakup comes months after the pair appeared to be getting more serious. Johnson and Pillsbury were first linked in December 2025 after they were spotted having dinner together. TMZ published photos from the outing, which showed Johnson getting cozy with the musician during a candlelit dinner with friends.
By January, the two continued fueling dating rumors with several outings around Los Angeles. Pillsbury also attended a New Year’s Eve party hosted by Johnson, where Entertainment Tonight reported that they were “inseparable” and spent the night kissing, dancing and holding onto each other.
Dakota Johnson and Role Model’s Romance Heated Up Earlier This Year
Despite the early sightings, the status of their relationship initially remained unclear. People reported in March that Johnson was “playing the field” and described her connection with Pillsbury as casual.
However, things appeared to heat up the following month.
In April, Johnson and Pillsbury were photographed kissing after an outing with friends in Los Feliz, according to Elle. Around the same time, the romance had become “definitely more than a fling, or just a flirt.”
An insider said the two had been seeing each other since late 2025 and that Johnson really liked Pillsbury, but was taking things slowly following her previous long-term relationship. The source added that the pair were “very much on the same page” and that their relationship “just feels easy.”
Johnson and Pillsbury never publicly confirmed their romance themselves, but their relationship eventually crossed into his music.
Johnson contributed a spoken-word cameo to “Love I You,” a track from Pillsbury’s album “Chuck Timely & the Hourglass.” Pillsbury told Nylon that the collaboration happened after Johnson stopped by the studio while he was working on the song.
Pillsbury admitted he initially pushed back on the idea, saying, “We’re not mixing work and relationships.” Johnson ultimately volunteered to record the part, which he said she “knocked out better than we could have imagined.”
The Romance Followed Johnson’s Nearly Eight-Year Relationship With Chris Martin
Johnson’s relationship with Pillsbury began months after her split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Johnson and Martin were first linked in 2017 and dated on and off for nearly eight years before ending their relationship in June 2025. The pair were also reportedly engaged for several years, according to People.
Before Martin, Johnson had other relationships that largely remained out of the spotlight. According to Elle, she dated actor Jordan Masterson beginning around 2012 and was later in an on-and-off relationship with model and musician Matthew Hitt before they split in 2016.
Pillsbury previously dated influencer Emma Chamberlain from 2020 to 2023.
Johnson has also spoken about her approach to relationships. While promoting “Materialists” in a May 2025 interview with Elle UK, the actress said she had never used a dating app and did not consider herself someone who traditionally dated.
“I’ve never dated anybody,” she said. “I’ve had boyfriends, but I have never been on a dating app.”
She also summed up her feelings about romance more broadly, adding, “Loving someone is the most scary and beautiful thing you can do.”
