Actor David Ramsey, best known for playing John Diggle on “Arrow” and appearing in 17 episodes of “Dexter,” is opening up about a deeply personal chapter in his life—revealing he is a survivor of testicular cancer and using his experience to encourage others to pay attention to their health.
Ramsey’s Cancer Battle Went on For Years
In a candid interview with “Inside of You” podcast on Tuesday, Feb. 17, Ramsey shared that he had quietly battled the disease and came out stronger.
He added how he didn’t plan to share his health struggles, but with more people getting diagnosed with testicular cancer he felt compelled to open up.
“I mean, listen, there’s a part of my personality that’s, in general, a little more, kind of, laid back and ‘Hey, as it comes it comes and I’m enjoying it. I love it. Period, no problem.’ That’s how I see the world and it’s worked for me. I think that’s kind of reflected in me not really sharing the story,” he states.
Ramsey explained that doctors have been monitoring his condition since he was 28.
The now 54-year-old also revealed how difficult chemotherapy was. However, he said seeing kids go through the same thing was even harder.
“You’re sitting right there and you’re kind of locked in, you’re kind of getting the stuff pumped into you and you’ve got your laptop or whatever and you’re looking to some kid who has no hair and he’s 12 years old and his mother is right there next to him,” he recalled.
Fans React to Ramsey’s Brave Interview
Fans who have followed Ramsey’s career—from his action-packed scenes in “Arrow” to appearances across the Arrowverse—flooded social media with messages of support after his story was published.
Many praised his honesty and bravery in speaking out about a topic that’s often overlooked.
“MANS HAD CANCER? Oh my God! Glad to see you’re doing well, Dig!” one fan wrote.
Another added, “I’m so happy David is cancer- free , it can be insidious as breast cancer is for women !”
Others shared their own encounters with cancer over the years and stated how brave he was for sharing.
Ramsey emphasized that he feels fortunate to be healthy today and hopes others can learn from his experience.
By sharing his journey, Ramsey is reminding fans that strength isn’t just about fighting villains on screen—it’s about facing real-life challenges with courage, honesty, and a willingness to help others along the way.
