For moms, life is full of unexpected challenges, and Drew Barrymore is opening up about one of her own. The actress, 50, revealed during a September 4 appearance on Late Night with Stephen Colbert that her daughter was hospitalized after a scary e-bike accident while the family was vacationing in France.
Barrymore Shares How Daughter’s Accident Led to an Unexpected ER Visit

“The last time we were supposed to get together, my daughter ended up having an accident,” Barrymore recalled, explaining why she had to cancel plans with Colbert’s wife, Evelyn.
Colbert quickly reassured the audience, asking, “And she’s fine?” to which Barrymore replied, “She’s fine, yes. Everything’s fine. My daughter, actually she got in an e-bike accident. In France, which sounds so fabulous.”
Days Spent in the ER After E-Bike Crash
Barrymore went on to describe the frightening ordeal. “She was like a mile out in the mountains and ripped her whole elbow open. We spent days in an E.R. in and out, she’s fine,” the mom of two said.
The actress added that her daughter’s quick thinking impressed her. “She ripped off her bra and turned it into a tourniquet, and I was like…” Barrymore said, trailing off with admiration.
Colbert praised Barrymore’s parenting, telling her she clearly raised her daughters well. She responded with humility: “No! That’s just who she is. And I just marvel at her.”
A Look Into Barrymore’s Family Life
Barrymore, who shares daughters Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, with ex-husband Will Kopelman, often opens up about her family life. On “The Drew Barrymore Show” in May, she revealed that her daughters are close with Adam Sandler’s daughters, Sunny and Sadie.
“I feel like it’s a really good sign of a good soul and good parenting when older kids are not dismissive of younger kids,” Barrymore said at the time, praising Sandler and his wife Jackie for raising children who look out for others.
Preparing for a Milestone Moment

“My daughter is about to have her bat mitzvah in September. She’s been in Hebrew school. Any advice?” Barrymore asked.
Rogen encouraged her to focus on the relationships her daughter may build during the experience. “The people she’s in class with, she could forge relationships with for the rest of her life,” he said.
Drew Barrymore’s candid story about her daughter’s accident highlights both the challenges and the resilience of parenting.
As she continues to raise her girls with openness and admiration, the actress says she’ll never stop marveling at their strength.
