“Bring it On” is one of the most beloved sports comedies of the 2000s. Now, one of the stars of the flick, Gabrielle Union, is opening up about where she stands with Kirsten Dunst over 25 years after the movie’s release.
Gabrielle Union Says She And Kirsten Dunst Have A Different Friendship
Union was interviewed by PEOPLE in January 2026 about the new dynamics of her friendship with her former “Bring It On” co-star.
She said, of her status with Dunst today, “Luckily, our kids are around the same age, and they have friends in common, so motherhood has sort of brought us together in a different way.”
Union then said, “When we shot Bring It On, [Kirsten] was an actual child, and now she’s a mom. And it’s funny because we were talking about some of her mom’s decisions and how she was raised, and what you took and what you left behind.”
The actress added, “It’s like we’re growing up together.”
They Reunited In September
“Bring It On” was released in theaters in August 2000. In additon to Union and Dunst, the film also stars Eliza Dushku, Lindsay Sloane, and Jesse Bradford. Peyton Reed served as the director. According to Entertainment Weekly, the cast reunited in September 2025 for the movie’s 25th anniversary.
They celebrated the milestone by attending an Alamo Drafthouse Los Angeles screening and participating in a Q&A afterward. When asked about a potential reboot for the movie, Dunst said, “I’m like, leave good things where they are. I don’t need to put on a cheerleading outfit.”
However, Union posted a tribute to the film the month before the screening and hinted that she’d be open to another movie. She said, “Twenty-five years later, and this film is still bringing it, and that’s all thanks to each and every one of you.
Back then, I never would’ve imagined stepping into the East Compton Clover uniform would bring so many blessings. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving. All I can say is: keep bringing it, because we’ll forever be here for it. Much love always, and to our forever Clover, Natina Reed.”
Careerwise, both Union and Dunst remain active. According to IMDb, Union is set to appear in the upcoming horror film “Forbidden Fruits,” which is slated for a March 2026 release. Dunst most recently starred in 2025’s “Roofman,” which currently has a stellar 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
