Ever since, Romy and Jake Reiner have understandably avoided the media. In a new interview, Jake bravely broke his silence to discuss his feelings and how he and his sister are trying to move forward in life.
Jake Reiner Discusses the Path Forward After Losing His Parents
Since the tragic deaths of his parents, Jake Reiner has had a difficult time working through the intense emotions. Understandably, he’s been struggling with making sense of the feelings.
“For me, it manifests into anger,” Reiner told KABC in Los Angeles. “It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened. I didn’t get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.”
Despite the difficult emotions, Jake Reiner knows how deeply his parents cared for him and his siblings.
“I know they loved me. I know that they are proud of me, and I knew that,” the 35-year-old continued.
The Family Will Always Honor Rob & Michele
In April of this year, Jake Reiner penned a heart wrenching essay on Substack memorializing his parents. He added that his sister would tell her own story when she felt ready.
“I was robbed of so many things that day,” Reiner mourned. “My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me.”
Though nothing can erase the painful past, Romy and Jake are looking for ways to honor their parents and keep their memories alive. The siblings made their first public appearance together since the murders at Dodger Stadium this August. Rob Reiner adored the Dodgers and the team honored him by allowing the siblings to make the first pitch.
“One of the great pleasures I have is walking into Dodger Stadium. It’s like I feel at peace,” Rob Reiner previously said.
“He had season tickets for the Dodgers and we would go anywhere from three to four games a week, and it was just the greatest time with him,” Jake remembered while speaking with KABC.
“The @dodgers have always been a huge part of our family,” Jake shared on social media after the game. “My dad and I could talk baseball for hours and I truly never felt closer to him than when we’d watch games together. Dodger Stadium is a place we’d love to come to as a family. Romy and I wanted to honor our mom and dad by throwing out a ceremonial first pitch for each of them. We’re grateful the Dodgers helped make this moment so special.”
