VIDEO: Kate Hudson Breaks Down With Family Over 2nd Oscar Nomination

Kate Hudson is soaking in one of the biggest moments of her career, and she is doing it surrounded by love, tears and family pride. The actress reacted emotionally after earning her second Oscar nomination, sharing the milestone with her famous mom, Goldie Hawn, and the rest of her tight-knit family.

Hudson, 46, was nominated for Best Actress at the 2026 Academy Awards for her performance in “Song Sung Blue,” marking her first lead-acting Oscar nomination and her second overall. Her reaction quickly became part of the moment, thanks to a heartfelt Instagram post that captured both the shock and joy of the news.

A Family Moment Years in the Making

Shortly after the nominations were announced, Kate Hudson took to Instagram to share a carousel of images and video documenting her reaction. One photo shows her hugging her mother, Goldie Hawn, while another clip captures Hudson FaceTiming relatives as the news sinks in. “Oh my God, you guys! Oh my God, I’m so happy!” she exclaims in the video.

She captioned the post simply, “What a beautiful morning,” setting the tone for what quickly turned into a flood of love from fans and fellow celebrities, according to People.

The nomination places Hudson alongside Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, Renate Reinsve and Emma Stone in a competitive Best Actress category. It also puts her in rare company with her mom, as both women now have two Oscar nominations each. Hawn won Best Supporting Actress in 1970 for “Cactus Flower” and earned a Best Actress nomination in 1981 for “Private Benjamin.” Hudson was previously nominated in 2001 for Best Supporting Actress for her breakout role as Penny Lane in “Almost Famous.”

Hawn marked the moment with a tribute of her own, posting on Instagram, “Oh, my baby, my baby, my baby girl! I love you as big as the universe. Congratulations, sweetheart. Once upon time, I had a little girl named Kate! And look at her now! Yay!”

Friends, Fans and Loved Ones Show Support

Hudson’s comments section quickly filled with support from celebrity friends. Reese Witherspoon wrote, “YESSSSSSSS! so proud of you Katie !!!” while Amanda Kloots added, “AMAZING AND SOOOOO DESERVED!!! You were incredible in that film!” “Dancing with the Stars” co-host Julianne Hough chimed in with, “Yesssssssss ma’am!!!!!!!!”

Support also came from inside the family. Hudson’s stepfather, Kurt Russell, showed his pride by sharing celebratory posts via his GoGi Wines Instagram Stories, adding to the family-wide show of love.

Earlier this month, Hawn spoke about her pride in Hudson during a joint interview with People, calling her daughter’s talent something the family is “in awe” of and praising her instincts and dedication. Those comments now feel especially timely as Hudson’s awards-season momentum continues to build.

In “Song Sung Blue,” Hudson stars opposite Hugh Jackman as half of a real-life Neil Diamond tribute duo, a role that has already earned her nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and the upcoming 2026 Actors Awards.

As Hudson continues to take in the moment, she summed it up best in her own words, writing, “What a beautiful morning.”

The 98th Academy Awards will air live March 15 from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on ABC and Hulu, with Conan O’Brien returning as host.
