Nicole Kidman is getting real about her 2003 Oscar win for “The Hours.” In an appearance on Jake Shane’s “Therapuss” podcast, Kidman revealed how her 2001 split from Tom Cruise impacted her career milestone, and how it changed her perspective on love and life.
In the sit down, the “Practical Magic 2” star revealed that even though she celebrated the win with her parents, the experience left her feeling lonely. “I had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home and was so lonely,” Kidman shared. “I was like, ‘Where’s my partner, someone that I can share this with?’”
The star continued that the gravity of the moment wasn’t lost on her, adding “This is the highest sort of prize you can get in our industry.’ And so grateful and yet so lonely.”
The moment was a turning point for Kidman, who remarked that it inspired her to shift her priorities. “It was one of the most profound moments where I went, ‘I’ve got to get a life.'”
The actor would go on to find love soon after, dating rocker Lenny Kravitz from 2003 to 2004. Following her split with Kravitz, Kidman settled down with country crooner Keith Urban when the pair wed in 2006. The couple shares two daughters, Sunday, 18, and Faith, 15. However, Kidman and Urban split in 2025.

The pair first met acting opposite each other as love interests in the 1990 action hit “Days of Thunder” and wed in December of that year. The couple adopted two children together, Isabella “Bella” Jane Cruise, 33, and Connor Cruise, 31, with Kidman reflecting to Variety “From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies. And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that’s when we would adopt [our daughter] Bella.” The couple ultimately divorced in 2021.
During their relationship, the couple also co-starred in the 1999 psychological thriller “Eyes Wide Shut,” and there are reports about another possible team-up.
In August of this year, the long-awaited sequel to “Days of Thunder” was announced, with Tom Cruise returning as the titular character Cole Trickle. While the studio recently revealed that Anne Hathaway was joining the cast in an undisclosed role, it was reported that Cruise was hoping to reunite with Kidman for the sequel.

GettyWhile it’s unclear if Kidman will join “Days of Thunder 2,” there is one sequel she has already delivered for eagerly-awaiting fans – “Practical Magic 2.” Kidman stars as Gillian Owens, reuniting with on-screen sister Sandra Bullock who reprises her role as Sally Owens. The story follows the witchy sisters as they work to break a decades-long curse that dooms any man that an Owens woman falls in love with. The movie also brings back “Grease” star Stockard Channing and “Edward Scissorhands” actor Dianne Wiest, and welcomes newcomers Joey King and Maisie Williams.
Speaking to USA Today, Kidman confessed how much stepping back into the role meant to her. “I needed something light and fun,” she said. “A lot of times, I am the dramatic anchor of the film, so to be able to be the one that isn’t and to let Sandy take that lane was fun for me.”
The film hits theaters tomorrow, September 11.
