Lily Collins is celebrating a surprising reunion with a piece of jewelry that holds deep sentimental value.
The “Emily in Paris” star revealed that her original engagement ring from husband Charlie McDowell has been recovered nearly three years after it was stolen. Collins shared the news with fans through a heartfelt Instagram Story on March 6, posting a photo of the ring back on her finger.
“So grateful to @joethejewelerchicago for helping recover my original engagement ring after it was stolen almost three years ago,” Collins wrote. “Having this home means SO much to us. I’m still speechless it’s back on my finger 🥺🤯🥰.”
According to E! News, the actress also shared photos taken inside the jewelry store that helped recover the ring, smiling as she showed off the large oval-shaped diamond piece that she thought had been lost for years.
The Ring Was Stolen During a Spa Visit
The jewelry had originally gone missing during a spa visit in West Hollywood several years ago.
In May 2023, Collins’ engagement ring, wedding ring and other belongings were stolen from a secured locker while she was visiting the spa at the Edition Hotel on Sunset Boulevard. According to People, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a burglary call after the actress’ items were reported missing.
Authorities noted there were no signs of forced entry into the locker where Collins had stored her belongings, and investigators began reviewing security footage in an attempt to identify possible leads. The stolen property was categorized as being worth more than $10,000.
At the time, the jewelry was not recovered, leaving Collins without the sentimental ring she received during her engagement.
A Special Piece From Her 2020 Engagement
The ring holds particular meaning for Collins and McDowell. The couple became engaged in October 2020 during a road trip proposal, later sharing the moment with fans on social media.
The unique ring features a rose-cut diamond set in a thin gold band and was designed by jeweler Irene Neuwirth, per People. Both Collins and McDowell praised the design at the time, with Collins calling it “stunning” and thanking the designer for creating such a meaningful piece.
Collins and McDowell went on to marry in 2021. Since then, their life together has continued to grow in new ways. In January 2025, the couple welcomed their daughter, Tove Jane McDowell, via surrogate.
While the actress had previously replaced the missing ring, the return of the original carries special significance. Nearly three years after it disappeared, Collins says she is still processing the moment of getting it back.
“I’m still speechless it’s back on my finger.”

Mention the ring, but doesn’t give you good pictures of it. Don’t mention how it was found, how it came in the possession of this jewlery store, how did they know it was stolen or who’s it was. Were they caught or was she targeted.
Exactly! We never will know the ins and outs to all the questions Pogo mentions. These are thing out of normal curiosity. So please tell us!
