Michael Shannon is officially a married man again after keeping both his new relationship and previous divorce largely out of the spotlight.
The “Knives Out” actor, 52, married photographer Christy Bush, 55, in an intimate ceremony in Athens, Georgia, earlier this month, according to Page Six. The wedding comes four years after Shannon quietly divorced his first wife, theater actress Kate Arrington.
Shannon and Bush reportedly obtained a marriage license July 27 before saying “I do” in Bush’s hometown. The celebration was apparently a star-studded affair, with a source revealing that “famous friends and industry people” were among the guests.
The newlyweds have managed to keep their romance surprisingly private. It’s unclear exactly when the two began dating or got engaged, but they have made a few public appearances together over the past year.
In October 2025, Shannon and Bush visited the Pasaquan art compound near Buena Vista, Georgia. A few months later, Bush joined the actor at the Hermès autumn/winter 2026 men’s runway show during Paris Fashion Week in January.
Now, the two have quietly taken the next step in their relationship.
Michael Shannon’s Previous Marriage Also Ended Quietly
Shannon’s wedding news also brought more attention to another part of his personal life that flew under the radar: his divorce from Arrington.
The former couple met through Chicago’s theater scene and began dating in 2002. They went on to welcome two daughters, Sylvia “Sylvie” in 2008 and Marion “Mae” in 2014, before getting married in New York in 2017.
Shannon and Arrington ultimately divorced in 2022, according to Page Six, but neither publicly announced the end of their marriage. Around that time, Shannon also began appearing without his wedding ring, per Daily Mail.
Despite ending their marriage, the former couple continued to keep their family life private and were photographed together as recently as November 2024.
Shannon’s marriage to Bush marks his second. Bush has also been married before, previously tying the knot with Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino. The exes share a daughter, Francesca “Frankie.”

While Shannon has spent decades in front of the camera, his new wife has built her career behind one.
Bush is an established portrait photographer whose subjects have included some pretty familiar faces. She has photographed supermodel Helena Christensen, Molly Ringwald and “Stranger Things” actress Maya Hawke, while her work has appeared in publications including Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.
She released her photography book “F A M I L I A R” in 2021, featuring images spanning approximately three decades of her career. Her work has also been exhibited across the U.S. and internationally, including in New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago, Paris and Tokyo.
And Bush already has another big milestone ahead following her wedding. In January 2027, she is scheduled to debut her first solo presentation, “Christy Bush: Continuum,” at the Athenaeum in her hometown of Athens.
For now, though, the couple appears to be continuing the low-key approach that kept their romance under wraps for so long.
