Before she was a Golden Globe Award winner, Teyana Taylor, 35, was a young socialite, often appearing at red carpet events as a teenager.

She first appeared on the scene in MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16” in 2007 when her family threw her a lavish birthday party in Harlem, N.Y. In attendance at her party was rapper Pharrell Williams, who helped sign her to Interscope Records’ Star Trak label that same year.

At the age of 15, Taylor did the unthinkable by choreographing the music video “Ring the Alarm” for Beyoncé. She went on to work with Jay-Z before revealing in a D Skee interview her decision to leave the Star Trak record label in 2012, which catapulted her career in more ways than one.

With her sights set high, she signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music record label that same year. Before the label change, West was deep in his creative genius as he worked on his “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” album in 2010, in which Taylor showcased her sultry vocals on several different songs.

After releasing her debut album, “VII,” in 2014, Teyana was well on her way to proving her voice was in the ranks with fellow R&B artists.

Teyana Taylor’s Career-Defining Moment

While she continued to cultivate her musical sound, Taylor was still known for her dancing abilities. In 2016, her dedication reached even higher levels when she starred in West’s music video for “Fade” off of his album “The Life of Pablo.”

Taylor’s “Fade” choreography showed just how in tune her creativity was with what she worked on. The intricacies of her vision were groundbreaking, earning her the 2016 MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography.

After featuring some of the music industry’s greatest artists on her 2020 album, “The Album,” including Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot, Rick Ross, Future and more, there was no doubt she was where she was meant to be.

While her music and dancing career was what launched her into stardom, Taylor’s acting career took off after appearing in several films in her early days as a Hollywood rising star.

In film, she’s worked alongside notable figures such as Tyler Perry, Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes, Taraji P. Henson, and many more. While she is slated to appear in the 2026 upcoming films “The Rip” and “72 Hours,” it would be her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in “One Battle After Another” that would give her the monumental achievement of winning Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes.
