Robert Pattinson recently revisited one of the biggest debates from the “Twilight” era while promoting his upcoming film “The Drama.” During a recent interview, Pattinson shared his honest reaction to the long-running “Team Edward or Team Jacob” question that dominated fan conversations during the height of the vampire franchise. The actor, who played Edward Cullen in the hit film series, offered a humorous take while discussing the franchise that helped launch his career.
Robert Pattinson Reacts to the ‘Twilight’ Team Edward vs. Team Jacob Debate
While speaking with French outlet Canal+, Pattinson and his “The Drama” co-star Zendaya were asked about the famous “Twilight” debate between Team Edward and Team Jacob.
Zendaya quickly made her stance clear.
“I’m Team Edward all day, let’s go,” Zendaya said.
Pattinson then joked about the debate before giving his own blunt opinion about the longtime rivalry between his character, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner.
“No one’s Team Jacob,” Pattinson said with a laugh. “That was just a marketing thing.”
A reporter pushed back, admitting that they personally supported Jacob during the franchise’s peak.
“I was,” the reporter said.
“Sorry,” Pattinson replied jokingly as Zendaya laughed. “That’s crazy.”
Zendaya joined in on the conversation and joked about embracing the franchise’s nostalgia.
“Yeah, I need to get, you know, the merch,” Zendaya said. “I need to get the whole thing.”
The reporter also noted that interest in the “Twilight” franchise appears to be resurging.
“There’s a revival of Twilight at the moment,” the reporter said.
“I know, it’s crazy,” Pattinson responded.
‘The Batman’ Star Reflects on the Unique Story Behind ‘Twilight’
Pattinson has spoken openly over the years about how unusual he found the “Twilight” storyline when the films were first released.
In a 2019 interview for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series with Jennifer Lopez, Pattinson discussed why he believes the story resonated with audiences despite its unconventional premise.
“I mean, it’s a weird story, Twilight,” Pattinson said. “It’s strange how people responded.”
He continued by comparing the romance in “Twilight” to more traditional love stories.
“They are very romantic, but at the same time, it’s not like ‘The Notebook’ romantic,” Pattinson explained. “’The Notebook’ is very, very sweet and heartbreaking and stuff. Twilight is about this guy who finds the one girl he wants to be with, and also wants to eat her. Well not eat her, drink her blood, whatever.”
Pattinson said he always viewed the story as unusual even while promoting the films.
“I thought there were definitely bits that were very romantic,” he said. “But to me, I thought it was a pretty weird story.”
Robert Pattinson Shares Wedding Advice While Promoting ‘The Drama’
While promoting “The Drama” in Paris, Pattinson also shared advice for couples planning weddings. The actor spoke with Brut at the film’s premiere about the stress many couples feel when organizing their big day.
“Don’t make such a big deal about it, don’t get so stressed,” Pattinson said. “Everyone always gets so stressed about their weddings that they ruin it for themselves by the time it actually happens.”
He encouraged couples to keep the experience simple.
“So like, I don’t know, just be more low-key about it and you’ll be alright,” Pattinson said.
Pattinson’s comments came shortly after he sparked speculation about his own relationship during an appearance with Zendaya at the Los Angeles premiere of “The Drama.” While speaking with Extra, the actors were asked about the biggest secret they had ever kept.
Zendaya joked that nothing came to mind. Pattinson then hinted his answer was “the same” as his co-star’s, prompting speculation about his personal life.
Pattinson has been linked to singer and actress Suki Waterhouse since 2018. The couple share a daughter and became engaged in December 2023.
“The Drama” is scheduled to premiere in theaters on April 3. Pattinson and Zendaya will also appear in the upcoming films “The Odyssey,” arriving
