‘Today’ Host Savannah Guthrie’s Return Date Revealed: Health Update 1 Month After Vocal Surgery

“Today” host Savannah Guthrie has been missing from her regular spot on the morning show for one month. The beloved host gave fans a hopeful update and revealed when she will return following her vocal surgery.

Savannah Guthrie Shares Health Update

One month after announcing her leave of absence to undergo and recover from vocal surgery, Guthrie is speaking out.

“Savannah is speaking out about her new-old voice and when she plans to return to TODAY — and it’s really soon! 💗” the official “Today” show Instagram profile captioned a clip shared on Tuesday, January 20.

“We figured it would be fun to give her another call to check in. She is still on vocal rest but she’s looking gorgeous,” Jenna Bush Hager announced during the broadcast.

After the hosts asked how she was feeling, Guthrie, who appeared via video call, began writing her response on her trusty whiteboard before revealing that she can speak again.

“You know what, I think it would be easier for me to just talk,” she said. “I am still on vocal rest, but I am allowed to talk for about five to 10 minutes every hour. This is my new voice—my old voice, but my new voice.”

Her cohosts, including Hager, Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, Carson Daly, and Craig Melvin, were thrilled to hear her speak.

“I think the good news is that, you know, it worked. It’s kind of a slow recovery,” she added. “You’re allowed to talk, and then if you talk too much—which is a real risk for me—you start to feel it. So you just have to really take it easy.”

Savannah Guthrie’s Return Date Revealed

During her Tuesday appearance, Guthrie announced when she will be returning full-time.

“I’m going to come back to the show, I think, next Monday,” she said. “But Friday I’m going to come and we’re going to do a little story about just what this whole thing has been like, and the surgery.”

She continued, “So many people have been so sweet, and I’ve read comments. This is very common, I knew that because of Sheinelle, but people that talk a lot, like teachers, for example. A lot of people have told me they’ve had this exact same thing.”

Guthrie first announced her procedure during the December 19 episode, revealing that that would be her last day “for a little while.”

“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit,” Guthrie told viewers at the time. “Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules and I also have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks.”
