SNL Stars Go Wild Guessing Paul McCartney’s Season Finale Setlist

Two stars of the season finale of “Saturday Night Live” went wild trying to guess Paul McCartney’s setlist for the last show of Season 51.

From classic Beatles staples to deep solo cuts, McCartney has thousands of songs he could choose from. However, former SNL star and finale host Will Ferrell and cast member Marcello Hernandez tossed out a completely unrelated song, turning the segment into a full-on comedy moment.

SNL Stars Brought The Funny in New Season Finale Promos

In a series of new promos teasing SNL’s Season 51’s finale, Will Ferrell, Marcello Hernandez, and Paul McCartney playfully guessed what songs he might perform. The bit quickly spiraled into absurd territory, with the cast tossing out wildly incorrect song picks for laughs.

“Hi. I’m Will Ferrell, and I will be hosting the season finale of SNL this week with musical guest Paul McCartney,” he said. Hernandez replied, “Sir Paul, everyone is wondering what songs you’re going to play on Saturday.”

“I won’t tell,” McCartney responded.

“What if we guess?” Ferrell asked. “If me and Marcello both say it at the same time. Will you tell us if that’s what you’ll be singing?”

The Beatles legend replied, “Okay, sure. Why not?”

Ferrell and Hernandez then simultaneously yelled out, “‘Despacito’ remix featuring Justin Bieber.” McCartney quipped, “How did you know?”

The Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee hit topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-breaking 16 weeks back 2017.

SNL viewers couldn’t contain their excitement over Paul McCartney’s latest appearance on the late-night comedy sketch series.

“How is Paul McCartney so youthful?” asked one follower. A second penned, “Two legends in Will Ferrell and Paul McCartney and a future legend in Marcello Hernandez. The season finale is going to be LEGENDARY!”

“Lorne Michaels should interview Paul on the show so he can recount what happened when he and John Lennon were watching the program and were offered $3,000 to reunite. It would be truly fascinating, given that this year marks the 50th anniversary of that event,” shared a third viewer.

“Can you imagine a crossover of the ‘more cowbell’ skit with McCartney and his band?” requested a fourth Instagram user.

McCartney first appeared on SNL as a musical guest in 1980. He appeared a second time in 1993, followed by 2010 and once again in 2012. This appearance will mark his fifth time performing on the late-night sketch series.

Additionally, Billboard reported that it will be “almost 46 years to the day since his performance debut on the show, on May 17, 1980. McCartney also performed on both the 40th and 50th anniversary specials.”

Therefore, will he be inducted into the series’ legendary Five Timers Club? The exclusive group consists of hosts and performers who have guested on SNL five times or more. If McCartney is inducted, it will likely take place during the episode.

Will Ferrell was an SNL cast member for seven seasons in total, from 1995 to 2002. The Season 51 finale is his sixth time hosting. Paul McCartney’s 21st solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, is out May 29.

SNL airs Saturday at 11:35 p.m. EST on NBC.
