Sydney Sweeney Reportedly ‘head over heels’ for New Project

Actress Sydney Sweeney is reportedly “head over heels” for a new project involving a classic tale.

A new piece in The Hollywood Reporter states that 28-year-old actress has signed on for a fresh take on the tried and tested “Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

The new film will be based on Lindsey Anderson Beer’s upcoming novel, known as Hollow. The new angle on Washington Irving’s 1820 classic will be hitting bookstores at some point in the fall of 2027.

According to the chatter, publisher Putnam has the rights to the reimagination of the classic tale. Anderson Beer will also take her new novel to the big screen. The director of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines will direct the new project.

While there is no release date for Hollow, fans will be happy to know that Sydney Sweeney will be starring in the film.

There’s no indication that Sweeney’s role in the film could be. But there’s a fair chance to assume she’ll get the lead part, Katrina Van Tassel. Katrina is the main character in the story, as she deals with the supernatural Headless Horseman who plans to take her away.

The male lead, Ichabod Crane, is an investigator sent from New York City to investigate a series of murders in the village of Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod and Katrina eventually fall in love, moving back to New York City.

Sydney Sweeney Getting Major Hits across the Board

Sydney Sweeney has been on a roll recently. Her appearance in the 2025 film The Housemaid drew a reported $400 million globally. The film, an adaptation of a 2022 novel by Freida McFadden, will have a sequel released at some point in 2027.

Meanwhile, Sweeney is also a part of the latest season of the HBO series Euphoria. The show has drawn significant attention from fans around the globe. According to a report in Variety, Euphoria has officially ended after three seasons.

As such, Sydney Sweeney will be looking to move on to bigger and better things. That’s why Hollow promises to be a major hit, potentially outdoing an earlier iteration of the story.

Hollow to Draw Comparisons to 1999 Sleepy Hollow Version

An earlier iteration of Irving’s tale hit the screen in 1999. Sleepy Hollow, starring Johnny Deep, Christopher Walken, and Christina Ricci, was a box office success. The gothic horror film directed by Tim Burton also got critical acclaim at the time.

As such, Sydney Sweeney’s role in Hollow will likely draw comparisons to this earlier film. While Hollow is not a remake of Sleepy Hollow, moviegoers will certainly look for the parallels in the films.

Sleepy Hollow, released by Paramount Pictures, grossed $207 million at the box office at the time. The box office numbers more than doubled its reported budget of about $100 million. The film also earned an Academy Award for Best Art Direction.

It will be interesting to see if the new incarnation of this classic tale will be as dark as Burton’s version. One thing is certain: Having Sydney Sweeney on board should boost Hollow’s box office allure.
