Jean-Christophe “Pitof” Comar’s “Catwoman” is one of the most maligned superhero movies ever made.
The bizarre adaptation, loosely based on the DC Comics character of the same name, has an abysmal 8% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also lost money at the box office, having grossed just over $82 million globally, when it cost $100 million to make (per The Numbers).
However, that was a shame, as it boasted a star-studded and attention-grabbing core cast. Halle Berry starred as the eponymous character, while Sharon Stone, Benjamin Bratt, and other respected actors provided support.
The problem was the massive (and completely unnecessary) change from the source material. Instead of being an exceptionally skilled cat burglar named Selina Kyle, the titular character is a meek graphic designer called Patience Phillips.
Patience discovers a conspiracy within the cosmetics company for which she works. When the company finds out, she is murdered by the conspirators, and revived by an Egyptian mau cat. As a result, she gains cat-like superhuman abilities, and becomes the a crime-fighting superheroine. Ludicrous, quite frankly.
Released in the United States on July 23, 2004, “Catwoman” will turn 22 this year. Despite its critical and commercial failures, the movie’s cast are undoubtedly an interesting bunch. With that in mind, it’d be great to see what they look like now, compared to when the film hit theaters. Let’s do that now…
