Candiace Dillard Bassett is known for her opinions and wit from her time on “The Real Housewives of Potomac.” So her casting on “The Traitors” felt pretty on brand…until an article from Vulture stated otherwise.
The opinion piece from one of the outlet’s writers shared that all cast members from the “Real Housewives” should be banned from “Traitors” for at least a year.
The former “Real Housewives” star shared her thoughts on the piece on Sherri Shepherd’s eponymous talk show. And, of course, she didn’t mince words.
Candiace Dillard Bassett Rejected the Idea that ‘Housewives Shouldn’t Be on ‘Traitors’
On the “Sherri” show, Sherri Shepherd praised Candiace Dillard Bassett for her time on “The Traitors.” The TV host also brought up the Vulture article, written by writer Joe Reid.
Reid wrote, “We need to put the Housewives in ‘Traitors’ time-out; we need a no-Housewives season.” Among other reasons, the writer cited the idea that the “Housewives” cast members tend to team up together. Other strategic gamers from strategic shows like “Survivor” and “The Challenge” do the same.
The result is an uninteresting dynamic for the game, according to Reid, as the “opposing” sides work to get the other out first.
When Shepherd shared the news of the article, Dillard Bassett, who appeared on Season 4 of “The Traitors,” booed along with the audience.
“16 tomatoes!” the singer exclaimed. She further explained to Shepherd, “To me, it reeks a little bit of misogyny. Because what do you mean? The ‘Real Housewives,’ we are icons!”
The reality star added, “We are a part of the zeitgeist of pop culture. This season would not have been in the stratosphere in viewership without our foolishness.”
Other Housewives who have appeared on “Traitors” include Lisa Rinna, Chanel Ayan, Dorinda Medley, and Robyn Dixon, as shared in the Vulture article.
“The Traitors” Has Been Renewed for Season Five at Peacock
Getty“The Traitors” will return to Peacock for Season 5, according to Deadline.
Time will tell if more Housewives will be making their way onto the “Traitors” cast in the future. However, there is a change that will be coming to the show.
Stephen Lambert, founder of The Traitors’ U.S. and U.K. production company Studio Lambert, shared that “Traitors” is getting rid of a new element. The show will be eliminating the Secret Traitor, according to IGN.
“After the huge success of the Celebrity Traitors, we introduced the idea of a Secret Traitor as a way of doing something that was different,” Lambert shared while at the University of East Anglia. “But it wasn’t something we wanted to keep going with.”
Per IGN, new seasons of “The Traitors” will come to the U.S. and the U.K. in 2027. The U.S. season will feature civilians. The U.K. will see another season of “Celebrity Traitors” with a season of civilians also.
Filming will begin in Scotland in a few months.
