Kyle Richards Gives Update on Daughter Portia’s College Decision Weeks Before Her 18th Birthday

Kyle Richards gave fans an update on her daughter Portia Umansky’s college plans weeks before her 18th birthday. In February 2026, “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star answered questions during a Galentine’s Day-themed Amazon livestream, where she noted that her youngest daughter, who turns 18 in early March, is still deciding where she will go to school next fall.

“She did not do early-decision anymore because she wasn’t 100 percent about any place, so she’s looking at all her options right now,” Richards shared. “She has some really amazing options.”

Richards noted that her California-born daughter loved some schools but was concerned by how “freezing” the weather could get. She has also looked at colleges in cities that have no direct flights to Los Angeles, unlike the schools her three older daughters chose on the East Coast.

“My other girls, I had a five-hour flight to go see them, which I did, and I survived, but I would love for her to go someplace that’s not as far, because she’s my last,” Richards said of Portia.

Portia has been looking at colleges for nearly two years. In a September 2024 Amazon Livestream, Richards revealed that her daughter was interested in sports management and that after managing the boys tennis and basketball teams at her high school, her “dream” school was the University of Miami for that major.

Since that time, Portia has toured at least three universities in Texas.

“I took my youngest, Portia, to look at colleges, which is so crazy,” Richards told Extra last April. “I went to Austin, we went to Dallas, we went to Fort Worth… TCU [Texas Christian University], and then [her dad] Mau took her to [the University of] Miami. …TCU she liked a lot, [and] also SMU [Southern Methodist University].”

Richards previously hinted that her daughter’s college decision could prompt her to make her own major life decision.

In the RHOBH season 13 episode, “A Celebration of Life,” the actress and reality TV star revealed that she would consider moving out of the Los Angeles area that she has lived in her entire life.

“I will always have a love for Los Angeles, but I just don’t feel as connected to it as I used to,” Richards shared in a confessional. “The things that make me happy are being outside, running by the river, hiking with my dog. One day, when Portia’s done with school, I’m gonna choose someplace to live that is more conducive to what brings me happiness.”

Richards has admitted it will be hard for her when Portia eventually leaves the family home. “It’s going to be hard, obviously, when she actually leaves,” she told The Daily Dish last year. “But, you know, I’ve survived three times before, so hopefully, I’ll survive this time, too.”

In the February 2026 Amazon Live, Richards pointed out that her youngest daughter was just one year old when the family started filming RHOBH. “We had her second birthday party on Season 1,” Richards said. “So, she went from diapers to going to college… It’s just so weird to think that she’s gonna be leaving and going to college.”
