Alec Baldwin is opening up about how the past several years have affected his health in the aftermath of the 2021 “Rust” incident that resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The 67-year-old star of the reality show “The Baldwins” spoke candidly during a recent appearance on the podcast “Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug Addiction,” where he reflected on ongoing depression, physical health struggles, and the emotional toll the legal proceedings took on him and his family.
‘The Deepest Pain Was for My Wife & My Kids’
GettyBaldwin said his greatest concern throughout the legal ordeal was the impact on his family.
“The people I was most concerned about, the people I had the deepest pain for, were my wife and my kids,” he said on the podcast.
Baldwin shares eight children under 13 with his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, as well as daughter Ireland, 30, with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
“My kids would see me sitting in a corner, I couldn’t even move,” Baldwin said. “There was a point in time where I took a nap every day for a year, right after they announced they were going to raise the charges again.”
‘It Broke Every Nerve in My Body’
GettyBaldwin described the emotional and physical toll the case took on nearly every aspect of his life.
“I don’t want to dwell on this, I just want to say that this was very painful for my wife and my family, my sisters and brothers, and so forth, my colleagues,” he said.
“And I can tell you, it broke every nerve in my body, spiritually, financially, work-wise, my career, my wife, my kids, my friends, my health.”
He added that the strain manifested in serious health problems.
“I mean, what it’s done to my health. I mean, if I told you what my health conditions have been since October 21st of 2021, it’s taken 10 years off my life. It’s taken at least 10 years off my life.”
Baldwin Admits He Had Suicidal Thoughts
GettyOn the podcast, Baldwin also spoke candidly about experiencing suicidal thoughts in the months after the charges were refiled.
“It’s really kind of unappealing to me because to talk about killing yourself and to actually kill yourself are two so profoundly distinctive things,” he said.
“I think a lot of people — I think countless people think about killing themselves and ending their life, and then very few do.”
He continued, “And for me, I remember, I used to lay there in bed and go, ‘Oh God, I can’t wake up another day and have it be the same. It’s the same every day. And I can’t do it.’ But somehow I found the faith in God to, you know, not kill myself tomorrow. Let’s wait one more day.”

He killed someone and seriously injured someone else and now he wants sympathy and to play the victim? I don’t think so.
He’s a lowlife piece of scum who only got away with it because he is a celebrity and may have even bought his way out of this one. A regular person would be rotting in jail.
Despite forensic evidence and eyewitness testimony he continues to lie and say he didn’t pull the trigger.
Personally I think the families of the victims should bring wrongful death and civil lawsuits against him. They are the ones who are the victims not this scumbag. They are TRULY suffering while he gets to still have his family.

Armorers on set – should be the ones responsible for the safe firing conditions of guns. It is not the responsibility of the actors. This was a terrible and tragic accident and one person paid with their life and another was seriously injured. I believe the families involved in this tragedy filed lawsuits against Alec Baldwin and his production company years ago. I believe those lawsuits have already been settled. I think the pain everyone has experienced as a result of this terrible accident has been intense and widespread. I believe justice was served in this case.
He could of had some sympathy for the woman that he killed
