Jamie Ding is a record-breaking “Jeopardy!” champion who has quickly become one of the most successful contestants in the show’s history. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Jamie Ding Has One of the Longest Winning Streaks in “Jeopardy!” History

Jamie has built an impressive run on “Jeopardy!,” winning 25 consecutive games as of April 16. That streak places him among the top five longest-winning contestants in the show’s history.

According to People, during his 25th win, Jamie earned $35,000 after correctly answering the Final Jeopardy clue. The prompt read: “In 2005, a church begun in 1882 became the tallest building in this city.” Jamie responded, “What is Barcelona,” securing another victory.

His total winnings have reached $702,000, placing him among the highest-earning contestants ever. According to tracking data, Jamie has answered 783 clues correctly compared to just 61 incorrect responses.

2. Ding’s Family Reacts to His Unexpected Success

Jamie’s family has been closely following his run, even if they did not expect it to reach this level.

“We know he knows a lot, but not this much,” his father, Yuchuan Ding, told The Detroit News.

His sister Jessie Ding admitted she had early doubts. “I didn’t want him to go on national TV and embarrass himself,” she said, adding with a laugh, “But he didn’t.”

His mother, Ning Yan, said the attention has been overwhelming in a positive way. “Friends, family, everybody, classmates … tell us they are watching,” she said. “It’s very exciting.”

3. Jamie Ding Grew Up in Michigan With a Passion for Learning

Jamie spent much of his childhood in Michigan, where his academic strengths were clear early on.

“He started reading at the age of 3, and we provided him with all the possible materials we could,” his father said. “He’s always been very curious about everything.”

Jamie recalled a key moment during his first “Jeopardy!” appearance tied to his home state. “Michigan was and is a wonderful place to be,” he said. “The emotional turning point of my first game was getting the clue about Belle Isle. After that, I felt like I was in the swing of things.”

His academic achievements included competing in national competitions and graduating high school a year early.

4. The ‘Jeopardy!’ Champion’s Career and Education Reflect His Academic Focus

After high school, Jamie attended Princeton University, where he earned a degree in molecular biology in 2013.

He now works for the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, where he helps manage affordable housing programs. His father acknowledged that while the career path was unexpected, it is meaningful. “I know it’s important …, and he really likes the work,” he said.

In addition to his job, Jamie is attending law school part-time.

5. Jamie Ding Continues Climbing ‘Jeopardy!’ Records

Jamie’s success has placed him in elite company among past contestants.

He is closing in on other notable champions, including James Holzhauer, who recorded 32 consecutive wins. Other top contestants include Matt Amodio and Amy Schneider, while host Ken Jennings still holds the record with 74 wins.

Jamie has also posted standout performances, including a Coryat score that surpassed Jennings’ mark during a March 17 episode.
