‘Selling Sunset’ Star Moves Forward After ‘Tough’ Decision

A long time cast member of reality television series “Selling Sunset” is moving on after being let go from the show for making a “disheartening” comment to a fellow star.

In the wake of the revelation, real estate agent Nicole Young is getting ready to start over in Nashville, according to Netflix, where she’ll launch the next part of her career closer to her husband’s family.

Season 9 of the popular show — which revolves around the high-end real estate brokerage firm Oppenheim Group in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas — hit Netflix on Wednesday, October 29. Suffice it to say there were fireworks almost immediately when Young and a co-star had an unfortunate exchange.

During their co-star Amanza Smith’s “Galsgiving” dinner in episode 2, “Selling Sunset” mainstays Nicole Young and Chrishell Stause got into a verbal exchange. Ultimately, it blew up into something quite nasty.

It resulted in Young making a “disheartening” comment to Stause. Specifically, the former took an insensitive jab at the latter’s late parents.

Young was already enduring heat at the dinner from fellow agent Emma Hernan, due to a rumor still lingering from season 8. Young had claimed Hernan had been having an affair with a married man.

However, it was her exchange with Stause that ultimately resulted in Jason and Brett Oppenheim making the “tough” decision to let her go.

Smith had confronted Young about the rumor she spread about Hernan. It prompted Young to ask her, “Where was this energy when it was me?”

After further heated exchanges, in which Smith and Stause insinuated Young has used drugs in the past, Young said to the latter, “Honey, you’re confusing me with your parents, okay? You seem to be obsessed with drugs.”

The comment ignited anger from Young’s fellow agents. It prompted her to say, “You talked about your parents doing drugs,” referencing Stause being open about her troubled childhood and past addiction problems in her family. However, given Stause lost both of her parents to lung cancer in 2019 and 2020, it was deemed highly insensitive.

In episode 3, Young was called to speak with Jason and Brett. Jason said, “Let me start this off just by saying, the reason we asked you in early, is because there’s obviously been an escalation of issues between you, Chrishell and other ladies that’s come to our attention. When it started, we felt like we could fix it, you know. But it feels more and more like we’re jamming a square peg into a round hole. It’s just not working, and if anything, it’s creating more friction and getting worse.”

He continued, “I honestly could not believe the comment you made about Chrishell’s parents. I was viscerally disheartened and offended. Any reference to someone’s dead parents is categorically off limits. Especially if it’s disparaging. You can call it savage, you can say that you were pushed into a corner. But it’s off limits what you said.”

Brett then took over, calling Young’s behavior “incredibly toxic.” He then said the only plausible outcome from this situation was her having to “leave the office.”

Young had been at Oppenheim Group since 2014. She first appeared on “Selling Sunset” as a guest star in season 3, before joining the main cast in season 6.

Nicole Remains Defiant in the Face of Her Firing

Prior to the season 9 premiering on Netflix, and obviously knowing what was coming (given that it was pre-recorded), Nicole Young took to her Instagram account to post a defiant message in the wake of her firing.

The post featured a video of several photographs of Young, with a caption accompanying it. The caption began, “No need to speak loudly when your presence says enough. Sometimes the smallest window is all you need to show the truth and who you really are. And never forget, if haters are hating, you’re doing something right 😉 Keep shining and never let anyone dim your light!”

You can catch season 9 of “Selling Sunset” now on Netflix right now.
