‘Aladdin’ Icon Gets Candid About Being Part of First-Ever ‘General Hospital’ & Broadway Crossover

The hit ABC soap “General Hospital” and Broadway’s “Aladdin” made history with a major crossover event. Broadway icon Michael James Scott appears as himself in two different episodes of “General Hospital,” and he’s gushing over being part of it.

‘Aladdin’ Star Michael James Scott Talks ‘General Hospital’

Scott has been playing the genie in ‘Aladdin’ since the Broadway show opened in 2014. Ahead of his final performance in the play, Scott made his debut on “General Hospital” as himself.

The storyline follows Gio (Giovanni Mazza) and Emma (Braedyn Bruner) as they travel to New York City to reconnect with Gio’s pal Scott. They get a VIP tour of “Aladdin” and amazing seats for the show.

“I’m so excited for fans to possibly may or may not get some Aladdin music happening on an episode of General Hospital. I grew up in a household of soap operas,” Scott shared with On the Red Carpet. He knows firsthand from his mom and aunts that you don’t mess with soaps because they are “no joke.”

The Broadway star admitted that fans of the ABC soap are the real deal, and they are beyond passionate. That was something he learned after the official crossover announcement.

“It was absolutely insane, the response that I got from people were like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re gonna be in General Hospital,'” he expressed, adding, “It was, like, a whole thing. General Hospital is iconic,” he expressed.

Making the opportunity even more special for Scott was the fact that he is playing himself in a first-ever crossover of this kind. Never before has Broadway teamed up with a soap opera like this, and being part of that was really cool for the Broadway star.

Speaking with TV Insider, Scott also reiterated his excitement over being part of the event. While he again shared how thrilled he was to play himself, there was something else that made filming it special for him.

One of the coolest things that stood out to Scott during this experience was his amazing new co-stars, Bruner and Mazza.

“They are the nicest. They are what you see. The genuine connection that they have, that’s on-screen and off-screen, and they just are the sweetest, loveliest people,” the Broadway star declared.

Scott explained that not only did he love having them in his world, but he also enjoyed being part of their soap world.

“I think what I loved about being a part of their world was seeing just how impressive these young actors are. They really take their work seriously, and it’s a lot of work!” Scott stated.

The feeling was mutual for Mazza and Bruner, too, who each sang Scott’s praises to TV Insider. Bruner and Mazza enjoyed being part of Scott’s world and getting behind-the-scenes access to ‘Aladdin.’

Scott will travel to Port Charles in the May 4 episode of the hit ABC soap, airing one day after his final ‘Aladdin’ appearance. In the episode, Scott shows off his singing chops at Curtis’ (Donnell Turner) club, The Savoy.
