On Tuesday’s episode of “Beyond the Gates,” emotions ran high as Jacob’s (Jibre Hordges) long-awaited commendation ceremony brought both celebration and painful memories to the surface. While Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) made her presence known from the moment she surprised Eva (Ambyr Michelle) at home, Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) found herself questioning whether she could continue living with the realities of Jacob’s dangerous career.
Elsewhere, Izaiah (David Lami Friebe) finally drew a line in the sand with Darlene (Monique Mosee) over her treatment of Eva, Hayley (Marquita Goings) continued manipulating Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) behind the scenes, and Jacob struggled to cope with the trauma that still haunts him.

Leslie Surprises Eva And Reminds Her Who Comes First
The episode began with Leslie making herself right at home in Eva’s apartment.
After letting herself in while Eva was in the shower, Leslie settled in and was waiting when her daughter emerged. Although Leslie complained that Eva hadn’t been giving her enough attention lately, Eva reminded her that she had encouraged her to focus on work at the clinic.
Still, Eva reassured her mother that no matter how many new people entered her life, Leslie would always be her first call. The conversation offered a rare moment of warmth between the pair before the drama of the day unfolded.
Naomi Questions Whether She Can Handle Jacob’s Career
Before attending Jacob’s commendation ceremony, Naomi sought out Dani for advice.
Naomi admitted that she never expected to be married to an undercover detective. She explained that she thought she was marrying the handsome guy who worked at the courthouse and came home for dinner every night, not someone who would disappear for months while working dangerous assignments.
While Naomi wants to support her husband, she confessed that the recent undercover operation left her shaken and unsure whether she could handle going through something similar again.
Dani sympathized with her concerns but encouraged Naomi to let Jacob be the person he was meant to be, drawing from her own experiences with Andre.
Izaiah Finally Stands Up To Darlene Over Eva
Meanwhile, Darlene attempted to organize a family dinner to celebrate Jacob’s accomplishment, but her ongoing issues with Eva quickly created another confrontation.
When Izaiah revealed that he planned to bring Eva to the gathering, Darlene made it clear she wasn’t thrilled about the idea. Her dismissive comments about Eva only pushed Izaiah further.
For perhaps the first time, Izaiah left no room for interpretation. He told his mother that Eva was the woman he loved and would be attending future family events alongside him. If Darlene couldn’t accept that reality, she risked losing her son altogether.
The warning left Darlene visibly rattled, but it wasn’t enough to completely change her behavior later in the day.
Jacob’s Commendation Ceremony Becomes A Painful Reminder Of The Past
At the police station, Jacob struggled to hide how uncomfortable he felt about being honored.
Both Elon and Marcel tried to convince him that he deserved recognition for helping dismantle part of the blood ring operation. Elon even took the opportunity to publicly express how proud he was of his son after years of tension between them.
Despite their encouragement, Jacob remained consumed by guilt over everything that happened during the investigation.
The situation became even more uncomfortable when Darlene attempted to exclude Eva from family photos. Although she eventually offered a reluctant apology after being confronted by Izaiah, the tension remained obvious.
As the ceremony got underway, Jacob found himself overwhelmed by memories of Derek’s death. While listening to Elon’s speech, he began hearing the gunshots from that tragic day echoing in his mind. After receiving his plaque, Jacob quietly shoved it into a drawer rather than celebrating the moment.
Leslie Crashes The Celebration As Family Tensions Explode
Just when the event seemed to be settling down, Leslie arrived.
Her appearance immediately reignited her feud with Darlene as the two women exchanged insults in front of stunned guests. Leslie mocked Jacob’s achievement while Darlene took shots at Leslie and Marcel’s relationship.
Things only became more awkward when Leslie proudly informed Darlene that Izaiah had been spending time with her family and had even cooked dinner for Eva’s birthday. Darlene’s reaction made it clear she wasn’t thrilled by the growing bond between her son and Leslie’s family.
Although Eva attempted to keep the peace, the rivalry between Leslie and Darlene showed no signs of slowing down.
Hayley Continues Manipulating Bill Behind His Back
Elsewhere, Bill remained completely unaware of what was happening right under his nose.
After learning that Bill had missed Jacob’s ceremony, Dani reached out with a message questioning his absence. Bill was confused until Hayley admitted that she had intercepted the invitation and declined on his behalf.
While Bill wasn’t pleased, Hayley quickly convinced him that she was simply looking out for him.
Unfortunately for Bill, that wasn’t the full story.
The moment he stepped away from the table, Hayley secretly added more poison to his drink, continuing the dangerous scheme that viewers know could have devastating consequences.
Jacob Finds Comfort In An Unexpected Place
Unable to endure the celebration any longer, Jacob left the police station and headed to Uptown alone.
Kat quickly noticed something was wrong and approached him. Jacob admitted that despite receiving a commendation, all he could think about was the sound of the gunshots that killed his best friend.
When he wondered aloud how many drinks it would take to drown out those memories, Kat immediately recognized how much pain he was carrying.
Rather than offering advice, she simply rushed to his side and wrapped him in a hug, giving Jacob the comfort he had been unable to accept from anyone else throughout the day.
While Jacob received the honor he deserved, it was clear that the emotional wounds left by Derek’s death are far from healed. Between Naomi’s growing concerns about their marriage, Hayley’s escalating plot against Bill, and the ongoing battle between Darlene and Leslie, the fallout from Tuesday’s episode is likely just beginning.
